I've been on a variety of doses (you can see my signature) and I'm thin and never been tested for IR. Best of luck! |

She's of course the most beautiful little baby girl I've ever seen! :o) I want EVERYONE to feel the happiness I feel. I pray that each of you trying to conceive will get pregnant soon. Hang in there, think POSITIVE thoughts, and never give up! In fact, last February before I was pregnant I said matter of factly out loud "I'm going to get pregnant. I know I am" and then a few weeks later I started to feel really tired so I took a hpt and sure enough I tested positive! I just didn't know how far along I was! Turns out I got pregnant around February 14th (Valentines day!). Anyway, keep your chin up and a positive attitude. Also, relax!! :o) Oh, and here's a better picture of Kristjana. :o)

My Mood: Points: 18,636.66 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 18,636.66 | This is my 2nd post on this forum. I'm a newbie .
Here's a little background on me and hubby.
I went off of NuvaRing Dec '05, and got my first post-BCP period in Jan '06. Since then I have had regular periods every 26 days for the past 23 months. I've only had 2 or 3 funky cycles where AF showed a few days early or something. My husband really didn't want to go get either one of us tested, but after waiting soo long he finally agreed. I went to my OB and she scheduled an SA for hubby. His results came back fine, and I went back to the OB, and she said that since I was getting positives on the OPKs that I was ovulating, and there wasn't anything else she could do (btw, +OPKs does NOT = ovulation). She wanted to schedule an HSG, but our insurance wouldn't cover it, and we didn't have $1,000 for it. (this was early Oct '07)
I made us an appointment for a consult with an RE. We went on Nov 5 - he took my CD21 P4 numbers (to see if I ovulated) - the number was 0.8, and for ovulation to have occured it would have needed to be 10 or higher. Kill me now why don't ya... having regular periods but not ovulating????!?!
A week or so later I had my CD3 bloodwork done, and he also tested for IR, he tested my fasting glucose, and fasting insulin. The ratio of the two numbers was 7, and he wants it to be 10 or higher. He put me on Metformin, and I started taking 500mg last Tues. Per his instructions I will up the dose to 1000mg tomorrow, and then 1500 a week from tomorrow. In 2 months I will go back and get the fasting bloodwork checked again.
He also put me on a baby aspirin a day - to improve my lining.
My cycles have been regular - but I have only bled for 24 hours - I figured that was probably a problem, since there would be much lining. This is my first cycle on Metformin, and my period is already lasting a bit longer.
I am also on Effexor and Wellbutrin for my depression.
I hope that Metformin is the answer to my prayers, especially since it is FREE.
My question is - how can I tell if I have actually ovulated (other than blood tests of course) if I have regular cycles, and +OPKs, and a temp shift? |

Don't have any other recommendations if thats not working. I love the book Taking Charge of your Fertility, but not sure if it would help you? |

Prior to that I was going by the OPKs and the fact that my cycles were regular. |

My Mood: Points: 1,057.44 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,057.44 | Hi, I'm brand new to PCOS, just diagnosed last week, and brand new to this website. I did spend pretty much a whole work day reading this thread, and although mine is not a success story yet, I want so so badly to have one to post up here. I'm feelin lonely and scared and kind of desperate at this point...
I'm 25, single, not trying to concieve - but will definitely want to in the future. What I am trying to do is lose weight. It's come on and off for the last 10 years or so - since puberty, I suppose - but the last year was horrific. I was on Effexor XR for about 9 months for anxiety and gained an incredible amount of weight - probably 40 lbs in that time period. I of course attributed that weight gain to the effexor, so I got off in July (I figured all that weight was making me more anxious than anything). I have never had regular periods, but never knew to think anything of it.
Weight has been such a battle for so so long. I'm close to 200lbs, but I should be somewhere around 140. I have tried every diet, read every book, and exercised so much that at one point I actually thought it was going to kill me - all for no results, NOTHING. Even joined an institute for medically supervised weight loss - watching the people I met there shed literally hundreds of pounds around me while I felt like I was working twice as hard - it was tough not to compare! I feel, and have felt like such a failure. This has completely defeated me.
2 weeks ago I was out of diets to try, exercises to do, and doctors/nutritionist/trainers to see, when I went to the GYN because I hadn't had a period in 4 months. And here I am! It's really hard to wrap my head around the fact that all this ISN'T because I'm a complete failure. I think it would take a long time to get that out of my head.
I began taking MetXR 500 2 days ago, I'll get up to the 1500 prescribed as fast as I can. I'm feeling dizzy and queasy and scared as hell.
I think I just need someone to tell me that it might be okay. |

Take heart - not only will you find all the support you need here with us, things WILL get better. The metformin will make a big difference, as will understanding what is happening to your body. It'll get clearer as you learn more.
First of all, stop worrying and feeling bad - as much as you can, and keep trying till you are no longer worried or feeling bad. It'll happen!
Next work out what meds and what sort of food you'll be eating now. Don't worry - there is no perfect diet or perfect regime - you'll work out what works for you at each stage, and then change it as your needs change.
Don't worry when you slip up - make plans, work through them, change them, get back on track when you slip - mostly start living life like it's good, because it'll be good soon!
The most comforting thing my Dr said to me when she was explaining all the good things she was going to help me achieve was don't feel bad about the overeating and the weight gain that came before I met her - it wasn't my fault, it was my insulin resistance, I couldn't help it, I was chemically hungry is how I describe it. Real hunger is totally different from that compulsion I used to feel before I knew what was going on ... I didn't even know I was feeling something different to the non-IR people around me.
For now - hugs and more hugs

Thank you so much. I really need sentences like that. A part of me still doesn't believe I have this, but I think that's the part that can't believe its not my fault that I'm overweight - think that's normal?
I'm gonna go for low GI diet - i found southbeach to be pretty tolerable.
I really appreciate your encouragment - can't tell you how much I already love you girls. |
