My Mood: Points: 6,811.63 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 6,811.63 | Hi Metformin ladies. I was just diagnosed PCOS on Friday, and will begin Met tomorrow, after hubby picks up my prescriptions. I've been reading through this thread, and have gotten a lot of good info. So glad I read about Met and drinking, as I like to party down now and again, and would have probably learned a painful lesson if I hadn't read your advice. This is a totally unrelated newbie question: Can someone please tell me how you get the info underneath your posts, like age, meds, when diagnosed? I can't figure it out! Thank you in advance, and I'm sooo glad I found this site. |

I was wondering if any of you experienced this when taking met. I have been on met since oct 31st. I take 2000 mg a day. I started spotting really really lightly in the begining of upping my dose for the second time for a few days and now i have discharge that is like a yellow color in a way. Before getting on met I didn't have a period on my own for a lot of years. So I'm hoping this will bring aunt flo on full force so i can be regulated and have my own baby to love and cherish. I appreciate all the advice and tips that you have to offer. Thank you my lovely sisters. |

Points: 1,111.84 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,111.84 | Ovulation Great news for you! I am hoping that I start ovulating soon. I take 1000mg of met and started it in Nov. No spotting for me but I have always had a period each month. I have been scanned (ultras sound) each month for almost the last year and I have only ovulated maybe once. I will be scanned again this week. I hope we see something. When I went in last week my lining wasn't quite as thick as it needed to be. Wish me luck!

angel2007, what strength are you on? It took me about 6 weeks to get used to the met, but when I needed to up my dose, I upped it VERY slowly, 1/4th of a pill at a time making my way up to 2000mg. TRY and keep up with it. I know some women try a different met IR I think...When regular met doesn't work for them, the side effects are less.

My Mood: Points: 9,836.87 Bank: 687,120.99 Total Points: 696,957.86 | hi angel - sorry you are having such a rough time. My side effects were similar and lasted a long time - 4/5 months (not all of them all the time, but most of them most of the time in wonderful combinations!!)
What helped was taking them a half hour before each meal, taking the slow release version, and being careful with my food. I also found out I am lactose intolerant and that I have a problem with producing too much acid in my tummy - I am careful with food in that respect too. Do you know if you have any other food/gut problems?
I have to say, all the time I had the side effects I wanted to give up, and it ha taken me longer than others, but I am now side effect free. Hang in there, it has helped me so much.

My Mood: Points: 1,573.02 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,573.02 | I started met two days ago, so I cannot say a lot about any success just yet, as all I feel at the moment is nausea, lol.
Although I started getting tummy cramps last night. So heres hoping hehe.
I am on the Low GI diet, I was on it before, but then I got frustrated because it seemed to not be working, even though it was the results were just taking more time, perhaps I became a little impatient I dunno hehe, so I'm starting it again, I'm also considering becoming a vegetarian, I've heard that can help too.
Best wishes to all of you though and congrats to those of you who have had success with met and I hope I do aswell, heh
K xx

Points: 120.20 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 120.20 | Thanks Hi
Prettychickpea & Maillady- thanx for ur replies.
I just wanted to share a few more details .....
iam 26 yrs 've been bleeding severely almost evryday since my menarche.
It was getting better since 2005. I had to undergo D&C with hysteroscopy in sep 2006 ( my doc suspected it to be a polyp )
Then I moved to another place ..here a new doc believes it to be pcos
thats y she gave me metformin XR 1000mg twice daily
she wanted me to remain with it at least for 6 months b4 i start clomid.
Meanwhile, she also wants to completely rule out the polyp 'thing'.There is no clear evidence, though.
so, she asked me to undergo vaginal ultrasound.
my anxiety is increasing nowadays |

My Mood: Points: 370.97 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 370.97 | getting worried... i have been on met since the beg of oct and maybe a month ago i felt cramps like af was on her way. no show...i took a test and got a bfn. for the last 3 or so days ive been getting the af cramps again but i havent even been spotting...im not sure if af is on her way or not. i want to test again in a week or so but i will be very discouraged if i get another neg. do these things sound familiar to anyone? it feels like af may come and then more symptoms are showing up. i am not keeping track of my temps or anything like that so i wouldnt be able to know what was going on that way. i just would like to hear from some sisters that have gotten preg without even seeing af or women that it has taken met more than 2-3 months to work...thanks |
