My Mood: Points: 9,954.22 Bank: 43,398.28 Total Points: 53,352.50 | I start met tomorrow. Starting with 500mg x1/day for a week and bring it up each week by 500mg until I hit 1500. I'm really worried about side effects but reading what has worked with others is giving me some great places to start. Fingers crossed I don't have the side effects too bad.
Jackieb124 ~ welcome! I just found this site this past week and am loving it. Finding so many useful things. I know there is a thread on here that talks about diet and stuff. I have heard a lot of people here using low GI diet or something like the south beach diet. Basically, not a lot of carbs, sugars, etc... Hope you find the answers!

Points: 1,111.84 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,111.84 | Congrats on the pregnancy! With every e-mail I keep my hopes up. My mom too died of cancer a few years ago. I was really good about eating organics around that time but became frustrated with costs as my fertility was costing so much too. I have been on met for two months and have notice a difference around my waist and I am a thin cyster. I cheated a ton over the holidays but now I am back to a strict high protein diet. We are hoping this the magic for a pregnancy. We too have an appt with a fdifferent fertility clinic. I just want to know our options for 2008.
Good luck to all for a happy and healthy New Year!!!!

I had lost my Mam to cancer just a few mths previous and then the stress of the M/c tipped me over the edge. I took some time off TTC.. I then started back with a fertility clinic in Last Aug and I didnt go back on MEtforim. Just on injections etc to OV. I did OV but was getting bfn's. Nurse then said please get back on metforim it really is the key. So I started on 250mg and went up VERY VERY slowly to 500mg and then up to 2 tabs but at 2 tabs I was sick everyday and life being a nitemare again, I decreased back to 1.5 tabs and I felt ok-ish...
Acid reflux was now under control - thanks to homeopathy. NO CONVENTIONAL MEDICINE WORKED... Only all natural remedies. I have being seeing a homeopath since my mother passed away. She has helped me so much.
Ok so back on metforim about 6 weeks and I got preg..
So on Progrestone support now till 12 weeks and 1.5 tabs. I dont think I will increase. I feel BRILLIANT on the 1.5 tabs now.. I think maybe my hormones are levelling out cause Iam pregnant???
Keep with it all Chick pea.. it will work but sometimes takes time. I am trying since MArch 06. |

I am sorry you lost your Mam too. Its horrible isnt it. Especially days like today... we are just having a quiet evening in withmy dad. I cant even really celebrate my prengnacy yet as I am waiting to see my scan in 10 days. of course secretly I talk to my beanie etc but its hard to let others see that as they are all so scared for me too.
Keep taking the met! It works!!! really does!!!

It's been a little while since I've posted , but I lurk from time to time. I continue to take Metformin 1500mg daily. AF has come regularly since I started taking it in 10/12/07. I think I O'd in November, but not December. Will keep trying! The side effects are minimal, just need to watch what I eat.
*Nikiep and brener~ Sorry about your mom's. My mom also passed away from cancer a few years ago. It is difficult for sure. Take care and I wish you both the best!

My Mood: Points: 100.85 Bank: 801.55 Total Points: 902.40 | I am so glad to find this thread. I was going to read all of the posts until I saw that there are 710! I did get two good ideas from here though. I have been taking 500mg daily of met for 3 weeks and have stopped gaining weight, but haven't noticed any other changes. I am going to try splitting the dose in the morning and evening tomorrow and take a B complex after breakfast and see if that helps. If not, I will go to my doctor after two months (rather than the 6 he suggested) and ask for an increase in dose. Does anyone think I should see an endocrinologist rather than my ob/gyn for this? I don't want to get pg until I've lost at least 20 pounds. |

Points: 1,155.16 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,155.16 | Hello ladies I am new here for posting but have been reading the threads for the last week or so whilsty trying to decide weather I should take Met or not! I was prescribed it a year ago but did some research on the net and only seemed to find negative stories which totally put me off! But, I have been for a hospital consultation recently and my new lady doctor persuaded me to give it a go - so here I am! I've been told I've had PCOS for around 4 years now but miscarried 5 years ago so think i could have had it even longer. Ive been gradually gaining weight ever since, but more so in the last 2 years where I joined a gym and tried all the diet clubs going, which resulted in losing a pathetic stone at the most and went straight back on again as soon as I stopped! I started taking Met on Tuesday this week, New years day but only took 250ml to build up gradually. I was so scared at taking the pill it actually sat on my kitchen worktop for a week looking at me, until I plucked up the courage and took it whilst out for a meal New Years day with family...I figured if I was ill at least id be around my family to help me out! But, I am now on the third day and so far so good... no side effccts at all really apart from very mild dizzyness, but I am used to that with the PCOS anyway and very slight nausea, but again I used to get this most days anyway due to always feeling hungry! I notice I am hotter than usual but I am guessing this is just down to the hormones trying to sort themselves out. I am also feeling a lot more tired a few hours after taking the tablet, but I have been drinking loads of water and it seems to pass fairly quickly? I took half the 500 tablet Tuesday in the middle of my food with 2 glasses of water and the other half last night during food with 2 glasses of water again. I am going to up the dose to take a whole 500ml today, but have split the tab so I took half with lunch and will take the other half with dinner later, I hope this is ok doing it this way???? I really am pleased I started taking it and wish I had sooner without anxiety attacks each time I picked up the tablet! My stomach is def a lot flatter and I have gone right off sweet foods which is odd for me being a chocoholic...my fiance actually offered me his chocolate last night and its still sitting downstairs now..which would never have usually happened as I was a pig for any sweet foods... I am finding I am more drawn to eating savoury foods now and have definately eaten healthier this week so far... I wonder how long it will take me to lose weight (I hope I do as got around 60lbs to lose in 10 months for my wedding!) and also then hope to conceive. We have been trying for over a year so far since coming off Dianette, but nothing so far, so decided to put plans on hold now until the wedding then try again on the honeymoon!! I feel positive and hope things go well for everyone else just started too.... Karen xx

NOT to get pregnant, but that's what happened anyway. Yep, I just found out I'm having my fourth. I know I will get used to the idea, but what a shock. I was totally done. It's like starting from scratch. Oh well. I've lost 23 lbs as of today. Hopefully I can keep my weight under control with this pregnancy and after I have the baby get down to my goal.

Points: 6,612.52 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 6,612.52 | I was dx in March 2006. I was given Met 500 twice a day. I did conceive in Oct. 2006, but I had a partial molar pregnancy, so it ended in a D&C in Nov. 2006. Doctor told me not to try to conceive again until Oct. 2007, because of the risk, so it put me on BCP. I had a reaction to the pills that I was prescribed, which caused me to have a period for 4 weeks straight. The doctor decided that it would be best for me to go back on the Met and use another form of birth control. Well, we were using condoms and I started having issues, so I went back to the doctor and explained what was going on. It turns out that I am allergic to latex. So, while the doctor was trying to come up with a plan, I got pregnant So, I am now holding my little girl. |
