Just wanted to let you know that splitting the Met in half, I was told by the pharmicist that I could do that as I am taking regular Met. I understand one should NOT split the Met XR (extended release). Best wishes to you!

Points: 1,141.16 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,141.16 | Hey good2do....thanks! Yeah I am on the Met regularo so glad to know no worries about splitting it!
So, yesterday I took 250ml with lunch and the other 250ml with dinner, so now up to the full 500ml in a day, and no probs at all,....a few weird things such as I am finding I am going to the ladies a lot more, but not because to the dodgy D...just because I need to pee more...a lot more...does anyone else get this?
Also woke up today with a nasty headache, which wont go away, but I dont mind that as I am happy it is going to take my body some time to adjust and il be patient!
So tonight going to take the full 500ml tab with my dinner and see how we go then, at least il be home and can rest up if it does have any S/E.
Still amazed its taking to me so well, il obvioulsy have to update you all once I go from 500ml to 100ml a day next week...but so far so good...so glad I took it still....
I have a dietician appointment booked for next week at my local hospital so I will see what they say about the foods I am eating just to make sure...I am currently 252lb, but am so bad as weight myself every morning hoping to have dropped, might get my partner to hide my scales from me and just allow me once a week weigh in's to see if that helps boost me a bit more...
Keep smiling everyone else, just try to remember you may feel rubbish now but think how good you will feel in 3 weeks when your symptoms have gone and you can start losing weight/trying for that baby...whatver you are hoping for!

Do you think the first BFP was incorrect then or something else is up...how odd though?
Try to keep positive, it will happen again....if you want it to that is!!

But I took it and so far so good, 2 hours ago, had a few waves of nausea but apart from that nothing else...no mad trips to the loo, I notice my heart beat does increase for an hour or so after taking but its bearable I guess...
I'm going to stick this dosage for the weekend then try upping to 750ml midweek...keep you all posted!

My Mood: Points: 1,065.86 Bank: 1,060.77 Total Points: 2,126.63 | Metformin woes and wins I was diagnosed with PCOS and Insulin Resistance just last January after a LONG time of no one being able to tell me what was wrong with me. A nurse, of course, figured it out. I started a low GI (Glycemic Index Diet) and lost 7 pounds in two weeks. I also lowered all the "numbers" they test for. I then started Metformin, which was challenging to start and build up to my regular dose, but I DID IT! I went in for a check up in April and was down even more weight and more "numbers". So I was encouraged to build up to even more Metformin, my actual full dose of 1500 mg (?), per day to get my period going. I was in the midst of dealing with the dreaded third pill everyday starting in May and was just nauseated. It wasn't until it didn't go away by the end of June that my husband and my friend suggested I might be pregnant...Hmmm. I've been told I might not ever have kids, so I didn't want to see another negative test. I did take the test and BAM, positive. Then I took two more, BAM BAM, both positive. I called my wonderful nurse and she cried. I went in for a confirmation and it's true, I'm pregnant!!!!!
Well, my due date is January 28, 2008 but because of complications, long story, I'm having a c-section tomorrow, January 5, 2008 and I'll finally get to meet my beloved Baby!!!!
Things are tough when starting Metformin, but it is so worth it! I'm 36+weeks pregnant and still weight 20 pounds less than I did a year ago! That's how successful I was with the diet, walking, and Metformin. Aside from pregnancy stuff, I've felt so much better with this management.
Thanks for listening and good luck with your "ride" through PCOS!
Becky
Just an FYI...I was diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes, but my numbers, even at the end of pregnancy, are no different than what I had with Insulin Resistance. (This GDM complication of pregnancy is also what gets my c-section covered by insurance.) I was told I have pregnancy incuded hypertension, but my blood pressure is BARELY over the suggested range. My biggest problems, NOT COVERED BY INSURANCE, and the reasons for my c-section, are a velamentous insertion of the umbilical cord and vasa previa. Those are some scary things to deal with if you ever look them up...but I would recommend looking them up if you are considering fertility treatments. All I was on was Metformin, and I can't find a link. But I had taken Clomid.
Basically, I'm thankful for Beth, my nurse, the low GI diet, and Metformin.
So tomorrow...I'll be a Mommy!!! It only took me 32 years, but I made it! |

I'm back from my conference and managed to eat reasonably safely and had all my Met, and so am feeling fine despite being miles away from home for 3 days. Am about ready to O on schedule I believe.
Hi Karen - good luck upping the dose, do it slowly, I would suggest even slower than you are doing now, a week or so delay doesn't mean that much for treatment, but can make a big difference in terms of side effects.
You kinda live near my neck of the woods...! Kinda. Julie - so sorry to hear about the BFN. I feel your pain xxx hugs Babydust. Kim I was told it was fine to cut up the XR ones too ... ??

My Mood: Points: 6,348.30 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 6,348.30 | I can't even begin to say how grateful I am to have read through this thread. I have only been on Met (1000mg a day) for about a week now, but the s/e have been horrible. It was refreshing to read the positive side of all this and I look forward to being one of these success stories soon. Aside from the s/e (severe nausea, GI upset, headache) I am beginning to feel better. I am certain that with time this will help regulate everything and I will get to the "normal" person I never got to be! |
