Thanks to everyone that has posted this thread! I was feeling very negative about getting pregnant with metformin but now I am feeling encouraged! Good luck to everyone and God bless!
I was on BCPs for a few years when I was first diagnosed but then asked to be put on something else and have been on met for just over 2 years now. I started on regular met 1000mg/day and I had cycles more frequently than when I was not on met but not every month. After a year of 1000mg/day my dr increased it to met ER 2000mg/day. With the 2000mg I had cycles almost every month but skipped months here and there. Now I have added vitex and all of my cycles have been 29-32 days long. I do not know for sure if I am ovulating every month or not but I would assume so (I have heard of cysters having cycles but not ovulating). I have lost about 15 lbs too...a nice bonus :-)
I haven't been posting for a while- AF visited in October, but then skipped November, so I didn't feel like a Met "success story." I got a BFN in mid November and didn't think about it again. I know VRSweeney and I chatted about it then. BUT:
On 1/4, when I was using an ovulation strip, I decided just for the hell of it to add a pregnancy strip to the pee cup. It turned dark pink so fast, darker than the control line, that I COULD NOT believe it. I was sure I had confused the strips. Three hours later I peed on a drug store test and got another strong BFP! So shocked, seriously. I truly thought I was relapsing right back into anovulation. I am going for my first ultrasound 1/21, but we think I'm 8 weeks along!
The moral is that Met FRICKEN WORKS!!!!! Very best luck to you ladies, whether you're trying to conceive or just lower androgen levels & get healthy. It is my wonder drug.
Congrats!! That's so awesome, and such a great success story. How long were you on Met for, just out of curiosity?

Good morning, I started met oct 31st. Before taking met I didnt see af at all without assistance of provera. I spotted a little bit for like 3 days after starting in Oct. At the end of Nov same thing.
I started spotting a little more heavier 2 days ago. I just want to say that I think this is working. Keep your hope up sisters, I know how frustrating it is to be the only one with out a child or with out aunt flo coming around at all and it sucks big time.
I am so glad this thread was invented. Please lord let all of us have babies, we deserve it and have been ready for this for all our adult lives.
Did anyone have the same spotting patterns in the begining of met? By the way I am on 2000 mgs a day. Thank you for your support ladies you are the best.
I just found this site a couple of days ago while researching Metformin, and I am so GLAD I stumbled upon it! I have PCOS and Hashimoto's Thyroid Disease. It's so great to be able to see that other women are going through some of the things I'm going through and to have a place to talk about it!
Hey all, so im now up to 1000ml a day on the Met, the faint feelings have gone away although I felt so completely spaced out yesterday I took the day off work and just slept all day.
Today I do feel better and have my energy back again, not back up to 100% yet but getting back there!
I was becomming really worries as a few days ago as my weight was creeping up due to my mad hunger I got since being on Met, but today since I increased it seems to have evened out and I lost 1lb this morning, rubbish I know but in the right direction!
Keep smiling all of you...

This is only my second day on Met but I'm already less hungry. I don't want to get my hopes up in case I end up getting side effects, but I'm so amazed at how good I feel already! I think I'm in love with this drug.
I have been on met for more than a year now. I have lost 42 lbs. I love that. the side effects are not great, but still it is such fun having the weight off and wearing clothes I never wore.
I conceived my 2nd child fairly easily on metformin. I'd been on it for a year before TTC simply to bring my period back. I had "regular" 40 day cycles. Once I decided to TTC, I charted my temps and cervical fluid for a month and felt that I must be ovulating. Sure enough, one our first try the next cycle, we conceived. I stayed on metformin for my 1st trimester (not with the support of my doctor) and weaned off early in the 2nd. My periods were crazy after I tried to bring my periods back with met a year after my son was born (mennorhagia++) and found that the Mirena was the answer. Now it's 6 years later. I had weight loss surgery and lost 85lb. My period returned shortly after the surgery (I was down about 30lb) and have been spot on 30 days since. I thought for sure I must be ovulating. When my husband and I decided we'd like to conceive #3, we figured no problem. I had the IUD removed and started charting. Well, guess what? No ovulation even with regular periods and major weight loss. So I'm just starting met again and hope it works again. Wish me luck
I think that this medication should be taken to help us not only have more fertility health but to protect us from the uncontrolled blood sugar problems throughout our lives. If it makes us healthy to have returned fertility it is worth continuing for other less noticeable concerns in our health.
I had not periods for over 10 years untreated back prior to PCOS being diagnosed and now I have a 28 day cycle and ovulate the evening of the
14th day. I have lost 3 babies and do not have success in staying pregnant but the fact I get pregnant is a pretty big deal after 15 years of infertility.
I had loose bowels for about 6 months on the meds and have been taking them for over 5 years now and do great with no problems. I take 2000 mg of the extended release Metformin.
