I'm really disappointed today. I met with my endocrinologist and he told me I didn't have PCOS or Insulin Resistance. He is very open and very aggressive in his treatment of patients, so this is disappointing to hear. Apparently, my obgyn diagnosed me on symptoms alone (all of which I have), but my blood levels are all normal. Though I notice they are on the higher end of normal and that is with 500mg of met daily. The met has stopped my weight gain, but I haven't lost anything. He is going to check my estrogen and cortisol levels to see if that is the problem, but I have to wait another month to go back to him.

Has anyone else had this problem?

i'm not insulin resistant and my doctor didnt bother checking my hormone levels because they change so much throughout your cycle and we have no idea where i am in my cycle. he diagonosed me on symptoms alone. he said there are a lot of women who are non IR but still have PCOS and should be treated as such. he's also testing me for a few other things that have similar symptoms to pcos (such as androgen producing tumors) i havnt got the results yet but hes confident that its PCOS.

you may not have cysts on your ovaries, i dont. but my doctor still insisted that met will help all of the symptoms....

that being said, i am very discouraged. 3cycle on met and bfn! i cried and cried and i have to admit that i havent made minimal diet changes and no exercice changes but i still expected to at least get a period! what do you ladies think? should i push for clomid yet? i am taking 1500-2000 a day...increase dosage? im feeling very sad! i do feel some changed in my body and some pms symptoms come and go but never a period and no bfp yet. what should i do?

Just a little update. I started Met 10/07. I got AF two-ish weeks after starting the Met (previously very irregular). I have had AF each month since. This month it was a week later than the month before and was discouraged. When it came I was thankful. Now I am CD 18. Today at work I developed a pain in the middle of my abdomen. Honestly thought I just had gas (sorry). Went to the bathroom and I noticed a large amount of EWCM. When I got home from work I took an OPK and it was positive. Now planning to get with DH tonight. Keeping my fingers crossed for a miracle. Never thought I would have "regular" periods.......never thought I'd really O....never ever had a positive OPK. Seems that gradually thinks may be happening for us. I am thankful I started the Metformin. Never would have had the courage to start it without the encouragement from ladies on this site. So if I haven't said it enough.......THANK YOU ALL! Best wishes to everyone. Hope to tell you I have a BFP very soon!

Congrats to everyone! Met did a great job for me as well . Though I never took It as I should (I hate pills). A pill here and there and It still worked wonders for me. When I was first prescribed with Met I weighed 220lbs which was a year ago and now I weigh 170lbs and still losing. Now after reading all of the wonderful success I'm thinking of getting over my phobia and taking It as I should so I can look great this summer.Good luck guys!

I went to an reproductive endo today and the nurse really doubts that I have PCOS. She thinks I am too thin and that is the problem. They want me to eat more and stop the low carb diet. I have been through this before. Prior to doing shots a different endo told me to eat everything in sight. I did but only gained weight in my middle and it wasn't pretty. Since that Dr. I went to a OBGY who DX me with PCOS as I had 20 follicles on each ovary. After over a year of Follistim and no ovulation, we tried met and collmid. No luck ovulating still. I really want to increase my met to 1500mg but it is hard when people don't believe your DX. I do not show to be IR but as others had said that doesn't mean much. I am going to go with my gut. I am trying to get a appt with the actual Dr. Wish me luck!!! Second and third opinions are sometimes what we need.

I don't have any of those symptoms with Met but I did have them when I was pregnant five years ago. I would do a HPT.

Good luck!

I lost 50 pounds in just three months of takin met. I've been on it almost another 3 months since I started it and I can tell I have lost at least another 20lbs. So about 70lbs all together.. not to shabby if you ask me. Other than that I haven't seen any other changes, but it doesn't mean that I'm not hopeful. Good luck to everyone!! Your all in my prayers!

If you have trouble swallowing the pills.. heres a trick I used to use before I started cutting them in half. Cut the pill into threes, take a spoon and crush the living life out of it, run the hot water, put the crushed up bits of the pill on the spoon and slowly add the hot water from your faucet, wait about 2 minutes for it to disolve.. shove it in your pie hole lol and swallow. MAKE SURE TO HAVE A DRINK NEAR!! LOL.. hope that helps =] Good luck hun
