My Mood: Points: 579.91 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 579.91 | Newbie just starting met Hi all...
This is my first post but I read all of your stories to get me motivated to start taking care of my PCOS and I am forever grateful!! This is my third full day on it and so far I fee ok. I told my Dr I wanted to start small and work up so I am doing 1/2 tab (250) twice a day this week and if there are no bad effects I will try 500 twice a day.If I have effects I will back up and give my body more time to get used to it. I am also using acupuncture, massage, and yoga(I'm a little fat so thats still more frustrating then fun but I will get there ) I plan to use the met to kick start my system and kick start my weight loss... use the alternative remedies to support it,.... conceive this year and get off the meds after 1st trimester.I have a plan Any info or experience you want to share is appreciated!!
I also was told I have a slight fatty liver. I told my obgyn and she was not worried as fatty liver is sometimes associated with pcos??? But she ordered liver function test anyway but said start the med it actually will probably help.I have read some new studies that Met does actually seem to decrease fatty liver. Anyone have insight on that?
aAso has anyone had success at 500 mg? I do not really want to take the megadoses if I do not have to!!!
Thanks and hope to get t0 know you all!! |

Welcome!

I'm at 500mg now and I'm keeping a steady period every 20-21ish days now, from what I understand I'm most likely not ovulating.
When did you all up your dosage?

Well I guess it wasn't too fast, I just had to break my pills into 4ths for the side effects b/c I had a problem going from 1000mg to 1500, so I was upping it every 4 days (but just by 4ths)...Just go at your own speed...and when you think you are ready...then up it.

My Mood: Points: 613.91 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 613.91 | Hi everyone! I'm new to this site, but im glad i found people who are taking metformin for infertility. I have been ttc for 3 1/2 years now and am currently taking 1700mg of metformin. I started out taking only 500mg on Jan. 11th and finally worked my way up. I dont think I have pcos. Never been diagnosed. My periods are irregular and I am overweight and my doctor seems to think this will help. Just wondering if anyone has gotten pregnant taking metformin alone. And how long will it take for metformin to work. Im a little confused on how metformin can help me get pregnant, so I could use a little info from others. Thanks! |

My Mood: Points: 3,266.89 Bank: 698.38 Total Points: 3,965.27 | Well after my on again off again with met... I have decided to stick to it.... I was so sick of the s/e that I would go off of them just as soon as I had gone on them. This time is different though... I sit here and read everyone's comments, and realize this will only make it better.... I now take it in the middle of a meal with is 100% the way it should be done... I now no longer feel like throwing up right after a meal. I have been no it almost 3 weeks, and already lost 4 lbs... YAY! Thanks for making Met a positive thing for me!

Thanks! | My understanding is that Met will help your insulin levels. Insulin is a hormone and when your hormones are out of wack it may be hard to get pregnant. If you insulin levels are out of wack you may be also craving carbs and storing fat. I also have read that if you have too much fat you may be storing estrogen which again can throw off your hormone levels. Lots of women lose weight and feel better on Met. Good luck! I am a thin cyster, so I am on Met no to lose weight but to try and get my hormone levels normal.
Good luck!
Nikiep

i am also on met only. it got my periods back. doc thinks its gona work for me. and i hope that it works to get me preg . i got very sick on it for 6 months, but i stick to it as i knew that i dont have anyother option. i m on met for 7 months. i still did not have my periods yet, so plan to take HPT in few days....
i have also started acupuncture as i heard that it helps infertility, so i m doing this with met and also go to chiro n get adjustments done.... i hope that i dont have to take any other medicine as i fear severe side effects.....

My Mood: Points: 165.23 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 165.23 | looking for guidance this is my first post and I would like to begin by thanking all the women on this forum for all their stories and motivation to fight PCOS.
I was diagnosed almost 9 or 10 years ago and put on BC which really helped. After being on BC for 7 years, my husband and I were preparing to have a baby so I stopped by BC pills.
I never realized the impact these pills had until my excessive hair growth returned (i even had laser hair removal done previously and to my dismay - most of my hair returned). anyhow, my doctor has put me on metformin - i am on 1000 a day and hoping to increase to 1500 by saturday.
i had not had my period yet - has anyone else suffered the same? should i ask for clomid to help?
also - i wanted to start monitoring my body temp. - sorry if this is a naive question - but i understand that our body temp is regularly 98.5 and what should it be around to understand if i'm ovulating or not. sorry i'm confused on certain things and appreciate any responses. |

| I usually answer this question fully but I've been a bit busy these days. A great resource though is "taking Charge of your fertility" you can check your library or order it.. its got a bazillion great reviews on amazon. Its a ttc bible!

Points: 191.65 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 191.65 | Hi all, I am new to this forum and from the UK.
I had great sucess with Metformin and my darling son is now 19 weeks old! I never thought I would get so write those words!!!! I did have to have a high dose in the end I think from memory it was 1800 per day? but it did the trick, my periods returned and I began to ovulate again sporadically but at least I was working (sort of!) However the down side is it took me 4 years of doctors visits, trying a world of different diets, including a 1000cal a day diet prescribed my my Gaynae, which was the worst one as I ate NOTHING!!! I am now back to being overweight and am thinking of going back on the Metformin as nothing I do shifts the weight, I just seem to be getting bigger LOOKING FOR HOPE - I monitored my temp monthly, the only problem is you become absolutely obsessive and sometimes I think that the pure stress of this hinders ovulation, funnily enough the one month that I didn't do this I pell pregnant! I have had a look at my books and the temp range is 97 - 97.5 so the difference is tiny, make sure you take it at the same time every day or it won't be accurate, if I remember I used to take mine even before I got out of bed, you will need to do this for a couple of months to really get to know your cycle, my docs offered me blood tests on days 28 & 34 to test if I had ovulated which was really useful. Have a look at this link http://www.webwomb.com/basal_body_temp.htm

My Mood: Points: 321.72 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 321.72 | I was just diagnosed with PCOS last month, after taking Clomid every six weeks since June. My Dr. started has me on 1000mg of Met. and two days after I started the Met. I had my period. Then then last day of my period, my Dr. had me started 100mg of Clomid x7 days. About 4 days after my last dose of Clomid.....I began to O. I was so excited you'd think I was already Pregnant by the way I reacted I O'd for 5 days and now I'm on day 4 since my O, with no period. So hopefully my Met. and Clomid journey will end in complete success! |
