My Mood: Points: 1,613.91 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,613.91 | Well af came yesterday. I'm kind of glad because thats a sign that my periods are regular and then that means I could be ovulating now. Oh, but my cramps were horrible! I took 4 pain relievers and it took 4 hours before they started working. The pain was so bad! And to top it all off, I was at work when the cramping started. I felt like ripping my uterus out and stomping on it! lol Im going to ask the doctor if he can give me anything for the horrible cramps. It was the worst cramps i've ever experienced! Shew!!! Oh and I wanted to add that I've lost 4lbs since being on met. Thats with no exercise and no diet! It seems like I lose a pound a week. So thats really good!

My Mood: Points: 1,445.36 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,445.36 | Does anyone here have amennorhea? I haven't had a period since July 2007, and that was just spotted. I am currently taking glucophage 1000mg daily for the past month. My doc said that we would increase it slowly b/c I was having bad stomach attacks (aka diarrhea). I was able to conceive my first child with follistim injections and IUI. I am hoping to conceive again, but right now I just want to get a regular period. I am about 25lbs overweight, but I don't think that is "that much". I don't really have other symptoms of PCOS like bad acne or hair growth. Does anyone else have this problem? and if so, what did your doc's recommend?

My Mood: Points: 4,210.00 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 4,210.00 | Hello Mady52,
I haven't had a period for over 1 YEAR! I don't have any of the acne or hair growth issues adn my weight os okay although I would like to lose 10lbs ) I feel my bets 10lbs lighter. I am taking 2000mg Met per day. They have no idea what to do. The have given me prometrium (sp) twice and nothing. I love Met because it has really balanced my moods made me feel good. They have told me that everything is okay and it will not be a probelem getting pregnant but you really never know till you try right..
I am having acupuncture done and seeing a Homeopath..they feel confident that they can give me a period. What else can I do..

I haven't posted in a long time but wanted to get back into the swing of things!
I just started back on Met ...I only take 750/day right now because the S/E are pretty brutal!
I would love to get to 1500/day but how do all of you handle so much?
Do you take 1000 right before bed so you dont feel any tummy pain?
Is there any tricks to help with S/E?
I am basically going back on it to see if I can lose some weight and maybe eventually help me with TTC (even though I am not ready yet)
HELP and HELLO TO EVERYONE!!!
I LOVE THIS PLACE!!

My Mood: Points: 728.32 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 728.32 | I am new to the met (1000 mg per day)... I actually feel amazing compared to the way I felt before the met. I am losing some weight....Feeling full longer and definitly not able to eat like I use to.... I too was scared to death to start the met b/c of all of the side effects.
I have started taking vitex too.... It's been about 100 days since my last cycle and I am hoping the vitex and met help without having to do the provera or progesterone pills (YUK!!!!) |

My Mood: Points: 733.59 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 733.59 | Side effects with met HI!
Just wanted to respond to the side effects questions. I have not had many side effects at all and I think its because I took the advice of some wise women here.
Heres what I did...
I started with 250(half a pill) at luch and dinner for 1 week (total 500)
then I did 1/2 pill at lunch and a whole pill at dinner for one week (total 750)
Then I went to one pill at lunch one at dinner (total 1000)
this week I am starting one at each meal (total 1500)
and I am going to stay here for awhile as i am seeing effects.
I also take the pill in the middle of the meal.
And again really NO bad side effects EXCEPT I notice if I eat full fat dairy(mainly milk) I get bad stomach issues(no shamrock shakes for me on met )
The good side effects are MUCH calmer mood.. the bloating and swelling are gone(I can see my feet and ankle bones I do not have the huge appitite anymore and am losing about a pound a week without huge diet and exersize changes( am still working on that and I seem to ahve ovulated already!!
I too was very scared to take it but I am so happy I did !!Good Luck!!!

My Mood: Points: 165.23 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 165.23 | I'm so frustrated....
I've been on met since september and have not gotten by period yet. i'm on 1000mg/day and recently went for a number of blood tests - thyroid, glucose and insulin...everything came back normal.
asked dr to increase dose, she said she's happy on the doseage i'm on....but no period yet.
asked for clomid, but will this help me if i'm not getting my period??
looking for any insight - thanks girls - your words of wisdom are getting me thru this tough/frustrating/depressing time. |

My Mood: Points: 2,798.30 Bank: 3,682.50 Total Points: 6,480.80 | Yes, provera or prometrium can induce your cycle to start the clomid. I misunderstood the question and thought it was asking if clomid would help induce the cycle.
Looking for home- I am wondering why your dr isn't working on finding something else for you since all of your labwork came back normal. I know that the metformin has really helped my cycle and I am only on 500mg. My dr told me that if it didn't help my cycle then there was no point in me taking it. I know that your situation and mine may be completely different but I still wish that your doctor could figure out why your cycle hasn't come yet. Has she tried provera or prometrium? You may want to suggest it. I started Metformin 500mg ER tabs on 2-14-2008 and already I have gotten my cycle on the accurate 28 days from the last cycle's beginning. This has only happened to me twice previously in the past nine years. If it isn't helping you then your dr should be finding something that will or increasing your dose.
