Smile new to met... like seeing the success stories

Hi everyone. Just wanted to write and say I am new here. I started met yesterday. After 5 miscarriages I am hoping this is just the thing I need to go on to having a successful pregnancy. This thread gives me hope that that can happen!

Default feels better on metformin but still weight issues

Hi Everyone
I am glad metformin seems to be working for all you guys. My daughter, who is 17 has been diagnosed and has been on met for about 10 months. Her dose was just increased to 2000mg daily. She was not able to lose any weight and has recently started gaining again. Shw was also on Yaz so that has been discontinued to see if that was causing the weight issues. She feels much better energy wise so the metformin is actually working but I was wondering if anyone else has had so much trouble losing weight. She is only 5 feet tall so there isa no where for the extra pounds to hide. Being a teenager is tough enough, my heart breaks for her! We are meeting with a nutritionist next week to help us plan her diet better too. Any advice is welcome!

Hey there, I just thought id update you all and let you know there is hope with Met!

We have been ttc since December 2006 so I finally gave in and went on Met relunctantly after worrying for ages about starting it....I started Met 1/1/07 had an AF on 8th February, had spotting on 20th February came off Met 9th March due to some S/e but got my BFP on 12th March, so that makes me 5 weeks today...yippee!

I really was reluctant to go on Met and delayed it for around 6 months.. but now I wish I hadnt. It improved my eating habits, I lost 13lb in those 2 months I was on it, the only s/e I got whilst on it was dizzyness and some light headedness if I didnt eat and in the last 2 weeks I keep getting anxiety attacks so I linked that with the Met, but it could now be because of the hormone change since getting pregnant...who knows!

So anyhow, we have decided to move our wedding back from October this year to February next year as I dont want to be 8 months pregnant getting married...but all being good my little one is now due around 17th November 08!

To anyone wishing to conceive or lose weight I would def suggest Met, if you cant stick it you can always come off it, it was out of my system within a few days. the anxiety has def eased slightly since coming off, but I guess that will only effect some people.

With regards to the weight loss, I followed the Insulin Resistance diet and worked out 3/4 times a week with 30 mins cardio and 20 mins stretching and toning and generally felt a lot better...I guess I might now put that all back on but it could be what my body needed before it would allow me to get pregnant...I think im somewhere around 245lb now so it can be done!!!

Good luck to you all....

Karen xx

Keep up the met and exercise is sooooooo important. I just started a regular routine at the gym for the first time in my life. It is so worth it. I feel better and look better too. I started reading insulin resistant diet books and even the South Beach diet touches on PCO. It is amazing what we think is good for us really is not. Really investigate the carbs she is eating, it is surprising how high the carb count can be in our food. It will be a big adjustment but overall these items make you feel better and it is a great lifestyle change. Not a diet, a lifestyle change. I wish her good luck with everything. It certainly isn't easy.

I recently have been experiencing severe back pain so I haven't increased my dosage in awhile. I'm currantly at 500mg once a day. But I've lost almost 30 lbs... and an even better outcome is that I no longer have MAJOR excessive hair. I don't have to shave constantly and even if I dont shave for more than 3 weeks I don't turn into a CHIA PET!!!!!! Its great. I see my doctor on monday I would like to make sure my kidneys are ok before I increase my dosage.

Talking Been on Metformin for 3 wks

I actually was just diagnosed with PCOS three weeks ago, and was immediately started on Metformin. Started out on 750 per day, and just increased to 1500 per day a couple of days ago.
It's amazing to think that one month ago, I flooded for two weeks straight (doc put me on iron supplements...I was anemic because of it!)
I had bled literally for two years straight. Mostly it was spotting, but every couple of weeks, I had days of flooding. It affected my life in a major way...not fun for newlyweds!
I started Metformin, and within a few days, the bleeding stopped. Seems really soon, but I have not bled in two weeks, and it's just amazing to me.
Yes, the GI symptoms aren't so pleasant, but they only lasted for the first week, and then again for this period when I've upped the dosage.

I'm hoping for even more helpful effects, the hair growth has definitely subsided....and although we're not ttc yet, I'm hoping it will also make me regular again!!

I am currently on 1500 Met (just moved up on Monday from 1000), and will increase to 2000 next week, per my Dr.

My cycle seems to be getting shorter now... last one was 54 days, this one looks to be under 50. I am getting close to ovulation... CM is insane... I have ovulated the past 3 cycles.. I don't remember the last time I ovulated... honestly... it's crazy... probably 15-20 years ago!

We're hoping for BFP soon... we're actively trying this cycle... so a little BD for the next few days... won't DH be happy?!? LOL...

I have lost over 20 pounds since the met... and hope that continues with the increase in dose. I haven't noticed my hair getting thicker (very thin right now!) or the body hair lessening... but maybe in time!

I just wish I would have pushed through the side effects when I tried Met 7 years ago... *sigh*... hind sight is 20/20. I started too high of a dose... and didn't give it a fair time to work... was way too sick. What I didn't know then...

But that's behind me now... and I'm looking forward to moving on... even without a BFP... just the fact that I'm ovulating is a success for me!

Met has been my answer. I started taking 1000mg a day in 2006. Moved up to 1700mg in 2007 and since then have had two pregnancies! The first one did not stick but this one looks great so far!!

Hi everyone and welcome to all the new members!! I am happy to report that I too have a success story! Always hoped one day I'd be able to report that! DH and I have been TTC since 01/05 on our own. I was Dx'd (finally) with PCOS 03/06 and started Met (finally) 10/07. I was actually prescribed it around 04/07, but was too scared of the s/e to take it. I found this website 10/07 and read all of the success stories here, then decided I needed to just suck it up and take the Metformin. Since then i have taken it religiously. Not only did it regulate my period, I ovulated for the first time in my life AND..............on 03/14/08 I got a BFP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Doctor says my hormones look great so far so I'm praying everything will work out just fine. So.......hang in there ladies. Trust me I thought this would seriously never happen for me but God, my awesome doctor, and Metformin made it happen! Best wishes to all of you and again..........Thanks to all the people who have posted here for your support and encouragement.
