My Mood: Points: 330.42 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 330.42 | Cypresscreek: I agree with TrishainAZ that it depends on each person, but for me, Metformin started to work within a couple of weeks. I hadn't had a period in about three months before October 07 when I started taking it and rarely ovulated (if ever that I know of). Approximately 2 1/2 weeks after starting the Met (500-1000mg's back then) I got AF! AF came regularly until March 08 when I got my first ever BFP! So I've only been taking it about 6 months. My doctor says I'm around 8 weeks pg now. My dosage has been 1500mg of Met since the first week in November. I couldn't believe I actually started to ovulate regularly starting in December. BFN in January and February, then March brought the BFP! I was leary about it at first and was actually told by an RE that I wouldn't benefit from Met because my IR levels were within normal range. Well, my new, (and in my mind brilliant) OBGYN noticed that I had a "low normal" IR level, (on top of my other symptoms) and went ahead and prescribed me the Met. Sorry to ramble, but she told me, "Try the Met for 6 or 7 months and let's see how you're doing. Then let's consider Chlomid." Well, after 6 months on the Met alone I got pregnant. I am praying I stay that way.....well for 9 months at least! Best wishes to you and all of the other ladies out there. HANG IN THERE!!!!!

My Mood: Points: 172.68 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 172.68 | Inspiration Is Lurking Everywhere For Me!!!!! well all of this is really inspiring....i just started taking metformin on the first of april. i hope i will have a positive outcome as all of you have. I am about 20lbs overweight (no one believes me when i tell how much i weigh and the doc said i dont have to lose anything) and i am struggling with trying to lose it right now. i just need to loose some inches off my butt and thighs. Is anyone on a diet or may i say healthy outlook plan?? I dont have high blood pressure or high chloesterol. I dont know exactly what i should be doing differently except excerising more. Any advice????

Points: 7,809.43 Bank: 97,283.00 Total Points: 105,092.43 | Hi Ladies...I haven't been in here for awhile so I thought I would give you a quick update. I started Met in June 07 (bear with me if you have heard this b4) in Oct. I got my 1st period...1st one in about 12 yrs on my own...(somewhere in there) I went on clomid (100mg) and ovulated every time. About 3 months ago I went back to the specialist and he told me, even tho the blood work came back that said I ovulated, I hadn't (excuse me!!!!) I know I did....He told me to make an appointment to get an HCG done (b/c I KNOW my tubes are blocked..they were blocked 8yrs ago when I had it done) so I made it...now this test I guess can only be done on certain days of your cycle....so we planned ahead to when we THOUGHT I might get AF again. Well I got it two days early so I phoned to let the lady know. Her response was..."oh, I am sorry that won't work for us, b/c you will be on cd 14 instead of cd 12" I was thinking "wth"? she just told me to phone back when I started my next cycle. I wasn't sure when that was and I told her I would phone her when it happened b/c without clomid I didn't think I would O on my own. During my wait, I got my P4 tested and it came back YES, indeed I did O!!! I was pretty excited...so I phoned the specialist again, said I was on cd1 (yesterday) and that could we please get this test. She phones me back after checking and guess up...YUP, u guessed it, they don't have time this cycle, it just doesn't work out so if I could call her on my next cd 1. I was sooo mad/upset, thought I was going to cry right there. Felt like telling her, stop p*ssing around with my life here...Do u not understand I am OVULATING on my OWN!!!!!...they don't care tho. So I made an appointment with my Dr. for 9am and I am going to ask to go see another specialist...I have waited too long with this other specialist to be put off anymore...BAH...they annoy me.. I guess what I am trying to say is MET works...Stay with it, don't give up.. I have lost 55lbs since June...although I have not lost anything probably since the end of Nov. but I am out walking now so I feel I will start dropping again. Thanks for listening to my rant..It felt good haha. I will post later to tell you what my Dr. said.

Points: 631.86 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 631.86 | My daughter was put on met after extensive testing by several doctors. Finally she received the diagnosis of pcos by an endocrinoligist and was started on met. She had not had a period in 9 months, but had one within 5 weeks of starting on it. Still fighting weight loss though. |

My Mood: Points: 343.09 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 343.09 | Just started and going well Hi everyone, i am new to this thread. I was told i have tiny cysts on my ovaries and that i may have a slight case of pcos (if that is even possible) I got married a year and a half ago and my husband and i have been trying to get pregnant. I have found out since then that i have hypothyroidism and i have been on Synthroid for about 6 months and it is finally level. The reason i even went to the DR was because i am 50lbs overweight and i have no idea why i gained the weight. I work out all the time i eat well, so i was confused when the lbs started coming on. That is really the only symptom i have, i have no hair growth i have thick long blond hair i have never missed a period. So i was surprised to hear of my condition. Anyways i have started met 2 weeks ago on 500mg. Today i started 1000, I have had no side effects yet and we are hoping git stays that way. Does anyone have any positive stories about loosing weight and getting pregos on this? I am 26 yrs old and a little frustrated with the situation.

hi.
i was refered to endocrinologist by my family doctor. endo prescribed me met. if met did not help me, then his next step was clomid, n if that did not work then he was going to send to a fertility clinic where other medicines r prescribed n tests r done.
i did not have to go through all that cuz met worked well for me.
