My Mood: Points: 1,085.86 Bank: 1,060.77 Total Points: 2,146.63 | I'm Zach's Mommy! I haven't been on since the night before my c-section. I also don't know how these groups work so I didn't know anyone replied to my post. Sorry...so here it is...
When I was on Met I did have the side effects but I have a WONDERFUL husband who helped me stick to it. It took me from January to the end of April to get up to my full dose of 1500 mg. So stick with it, it's worth it.
I had my c-section...all I have to say is I'M ZACH'S MOMMY!!!! He was small because of being 23 days early but he has made up for it. He is now past the 50th percentile in height and weight! He's my superman! I am breastfeeding so I don't want to go back on Met. I was hoping to continue losing weight by using the low gi diet again and walking but with a newborn and a 9 year old stepson to care for....it's not happening yet. I am still down 30 pounds from last January at my PCOS diagnosis but I'm up a few pounds from my post pregnancy weight. I'm trying not to get too upset about the weight...I'm still down from before. I haven't had a cycle yet, but I am exclusively breastfeeding so it wasn't likely to happen anyway.
Has anyone else had a baby and not gone back on Met with any success? I will go back on if I have to, especially it that's the only way to get pregnant again, but I was hoping not to have to do it.
Thanks for the posts. I'll try to get the hang of the group thing.
Oh, any other Vasa Previa ladies out there?
Becky

I take 1500 mg per pay all in the morning before I eat. I wait for 1 hour before eating just to make sure. | oh that gives me hope. i am scared to start taking it

My Mood: Points: 923.35 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 923.35 | I just started Met on the 13th of April. I was diagnosed with PCOS on the 11th of April. I am VERY new to all of this, however I have done my research. I am just wondering what does TTC mean?? I'm so glad there are so many success stories. I've been in pretty high spirits since last Friday when I was officially diagnosed, but it's nice to see that other people have great stories to tell about Metformin. Also, does anyone have any suggestions on diets? I'm on Weight Watchers right now, but I want to make sure I'm eating PCOS friendly foods. |

My Mood: Points: 1,085.86 Bank: 1,060.77 Total Points: 2,146.63 | Glycemic Index Melissab
I was told by my nurse who diagnosed my PCOS and IR that I should try the Glycemic Index diet. She advised me to eat things under 50 on their scale. I did for the most part, with treats like peanut m&m's and chocolate milk everyday! I lost 40 pounds in about 4 months then found out I was pregnant. I only had one cycle after being on Met and that was enough. I now have a three month old and I'm still down 30 pounds from my diagnosis weight. I was diagnosed in January 07 and gave birth in January 08. Good Luck!

My Mood: Points: 923.35 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 923.35 | Thanks for the info! I have felt my appetite starting to decrease. That is a VERY good sign! I looked up the GI diet online and got some idea of the foods I should be eating. I am going to try and incorporate that into my weight watchers plan. |

My Mood: Points: 2,225.48 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 2,225.48 | WHOO! I made it to the last page. I've read EVERY single post on this thread since yesterday and man do I have a headache now, lol.
I am 26 years old and have two DC's and 2 m/c'd angels. After my son was born in 2004, I stopped ovulating completely and would just grow an ovarian cyst each time that would grow and grow until it was almost surgical and *POP*. btw, those hurt, lol.
So we tried the BCP's but my estrogen dominance is so out of control that the BCP's took my every 2-3 month periods and made them every two weeks. Gee that was fun. So then my gyn begged me to give the Mirena IUD a chance. Whoa, now that was a mess. I ended up bleeding out the IUD and have uncontrollable cramps and clotting.
So yesterday I go in and am armed and talk to her about metformin. She was prepared to talk to me about a uterine ablation (removal of the utering lining via lasers) and I asked her why we keep treating the symptoms and not the cause. I told her I know that I am anovulatory (my system starts but fails every time) and that my body has a lot of fat cells stored just chock full of estrogen, so I would like to instead of suppressing ovulation, try to force it. She said I could do the metformin and I have never been happier. She dx me with PCOs 18 months ago but thought BCP's and surgeries were probably better for me.. why? Darned if I know. We are military overseas so I really couldn't get a 2nd opinion unless I spoke Italian and paid out of pocket.
So I have started 500 mg 1x a day and in 4 days I go up to 1000 and then 5 days later it will be up to 1500 mg. Already today, after my first dose, aside from the headache from reading the posts, I am feeling better. I have only gone in the kitchen twice- had eggs for breakfast and some pistachios for a snack. I notice already that if I have protein, my stomach doesn't roll as bad. I've only had one bout of diarrhea since yesterday, but trust me, thats good considering I've been bound up for as long as I can remember. I don't want to have D but it's better than the opposite effect. I am just so surprised that my morning cravings were missing. I seriously wake up with my stomach growling and eat all morning and still am hungry and eat pretty much all day. I'm more tired than usual, but I'm about to drink something like a little pop or some juice to see if my blood sugar is just a little low.
No matter what, I am sticking to this and hope to post my success story soon. Success for me would be a returned AF with regular intervals, no ovarian cysts, and weight loss for a better quality of life. We may ttc later on but not until we get back to the States.
TC and I am very happy to meet all of you. TY for all of the success stories. |

I'm VERY proud to say that last month's cycle was only 27 days, which is a HUGE deal because before met, my cycles normally lasted between 42 and 46 days. Hooray for met!!!
