Before, I used to go for months upon months without getting a real-flowing period. The last time I had one was seven months ago. Now, after two months of taking Metformin, I have gotten a heavy period. Who would have thought I'd be happy about that haha! |

It started off really weird at first though, it was just spotting, then it was like a little bit during the whole day, now its flowing normally i guess. But this is the 8th day... with no end in sight! Hopefully it will end soon.

Points: 121.59 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 121.59 | I'm writing this new tears because I can't thank you all enough. I'm 25 and 213 pounds. I have facial hair and patches of dark hair on back. I've battled with it with creams and waxing.
I was bulimic from 16 to 20 just to stay thin, then at 20 depression overwhelmed me and for 5 years I've felt dead. I kept gaining weight at record rates, could never lose it and had horrible moods. Not to mention the hair was horribly embarassing and when I waxed then acne would come so it was a double edged sword.
I've only been on Met for 2 weeks and I'm up to 1500 now and though my stomach is upset, I truly don't care after reading this thread. I have so much hope I have finally found an answer.
I'm single so not planning on being pregnant right now, but I desperately want to be one day and to know this could help me become healthy and happy again so that when I am ready I can, brings me such joy.
Thank you all so much for sharing your stories. You have given me such faith in this drug and a desire to help it with exercise.

I am new to the boards, have had PCOS for many years and was diagnosed about 8 yrs ago, tried all natural treatments but to no avail, so my Naturopath suggested Met. I am on 1500 mg for two weeks, not really any side effects now, but no weight loss either. Have some of you had the experience of no weight loss with Met?
Thanks |

Thanks | vicisuzanne... I went the same route as you... I was diagnosed about 8 years ago, and did natural as well... started on Met last year. I did lose about 20 pounds in the past year... but that was over time, and I don't think the met had much to do with it, more exercise and eating better... I didn't lose like a lot of people do... but it did help me ovulate... so it's doing something... just not the weight loss...
Michelle... sending you a big cyberhug! I know how the effects of PCOS can affect your life in these ways... just stick with it... and remember, you're not your body... that's just the vessel... I have had almost every one of the "bad" symptoms of PCOS... and I've had to learn to love myself, despite this disease...

I have gotten pregnant 2 times while on metformin, but both times the docs have told me to stop and both times I have miscarried. Of course I have Kaiser insurance and I think I need to change my provider. I have read several articles that state Met will level hormone levels and will not affect the baby. Has anyone experienced anything like this. |

My daughter had been on 2000mg met for almost a year with no weight loss. This is with much exercise and being under the care of a nutritionist. We are finding it very frustrating. she is 17. |

My Mood: Points: 321.72 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 321.72 | Before I was diagnosed with PCOS, I would bleed for months at a time then not bleed for months. I never ovulated and I was steadily gaining weight and would constantly have mood swings to where no one would want to be around me. I was finally diagnosed with PCOS in Jan. 2008 and am currently taking 1000mg Met. I have also been taking 100mg of Clomid for 7 days every six weeks since July. Before beginning Met, Clomid never induced O's for me. Now I O for 5-6 days with Clomid. I have had normal and very predictable cycles since. Now this month I took my Clomid beginning on April 1st and O'd April 12-17. I usually start my period five days after I O, but this month I am 4 days late and no signs of it coming. The only feeling I have is small cramping (nothing like my period cramps) and I am praying for a BFP by next week So Met has been an answer to my prayers of being "normal" and hopefully an answer to my prayers of TTC also!

My provider told me to continue the met, as studies show this will help prevent miscarriage in the first trimester. I would def. look at your options and get a second opinion. |
