Just wanted to update my progress on Metformin 1000mg/day and hopefully encourage some of you. I was diagnosed with PCOS 2 1/2 years ago. My regular family physician was the one who diagnosed me with PCOS (go figure). I had cysts on both my ovaries, AF only every 3 months or so, acne, thinning hair and more blonde hairs on my face, and was unable to loose any weight. He put me on BC which helped my cycles but did nothing for weight loss. I went off BC and asked him to put me on Metformin back in August of 07. Initially, I had no weight loss and felt aweful the first month or so. On Metformin I did cycle regular (which I never did w/out BC) I gradually began to see that I was loosing weight. I lost 12 pounds in 4 months. That was a nice change to gaining. I stepped up my weight loss by eating a low carb diet and excercising 5 times a week for 45 minutes. I only eat whole wheat bread and pasta and brown rice. I also mostly drink water or iced tea. Cutting out diet soda was key. To date 5/2/08 I have lost a total of 33 lbs. I am 5'5 and was 176 lbs and I now weigh 143. My goal is to loose another 10 lbs. I love this drug it has been a God send. Not saying it is the only way I have lost weight but it has given me the push and ability to do so. I hope this helps some of you contemplating staying on it or going on.

I had severe PCOS and even had a period for 1.5 years almost nonstop (poor hubby). We tried for 4 years, even with clomid, and nothing worked. Finally read about Metformin and asked my Doctor to let me try it. Six weeks later I was pregnant. When my baby turned 14 weeks we thought we might try it again since we thought it would take a while. Six weeks later we found out we were pregnant again. I now have two beautiful boys.

I was on 1500mg for both.

Anna: When AF used to come, (randomly) it would only last about 6 days. I havent had AF since May 2006!! Then she gave me provera to jump start it in Feb. I got it only for about 5 days or so. Then in April, AF showd up on the 15th, just spotting. I was on Met this time, no provera!! And it lasted until May 2nd. Ive never had AF this long. But im not sure if its because it showed up on its own, and i havent had it do that in so long. I dunno. But i only have one ovary left, do you think it would be harder for me to become pg? I know they say it only takes one ovary, but its just in the back of my mind, yanno? Im hoping Met will help me ovulate, so im just waiting to see!! Sorry you have a cold, they are definantly going around this time around!!

I have been on Metformin for several months now, and I just got my AF yesterday! Yey! To celebrate, I registered to post on these boards. This is my first AF in a year, but ouch! Those cramps! :

Now I'm praying it doesn't last 16 days!

my story

I was prescribed met 3 months ago
first month I took 500 mg because it made me sick
second month I took 1000 mg and added 50 mg of clomid - NO O
third month, dr said I could continue 1000mg but I thought maybe if I bump it up to 1500mg I could O! so I did and.... I DID

first month of 1500mg of met (as well as 50 mg of clomid)
and I got a BFP

I am sure it has to do with the met!

THANK YOU METFORMIN!
