Brooke- I would never say that I know more than any doctor, but have you at least discussed with him the option of staying on metformin? Maybe you could print out one of the studies on this site and see what he thinks and perhaps he can better explain why it would or would not be a good option for you. I don't know much about progesterone so maybe that will help too? Either way Good luck!
Hello,
Good Luck! keep us posted.

I'm hoping that I can join this thread, I just started Metformin yesterday was my first day. I had some stomach issues this morning, any advise would be nice.
Thanks!

Janice ~ I found it helpful to have Tums, Gas-X, and Immodium around the house. My side effects were pretty mild, but it's nice to be able to treat them as soon as they appear. Good luck!

Thank you ladies, I thought it was something I ate but I guess not. I need to get some stuff tonight.
Another question is I'm going to Las Vegas and if I were to have a drink would that effect me??

Some people can have alcohol without a problem. Others really pay for it the next day. I'd suggest keeping it to just 1 or 2 until you know how you'll respond. I'd hate for you to be miserable during the rest of your trip because of something like that.

Yes, and I am not expert, but I think Met can be hard on your liver, so you probably wouldn't want to drink regularly. I've had a couple of drinks here and there and haven't had much of a problem (I'm a light weight anyway though and get drunk off of two regardless!)
OMG I love you ladies, you know a lot about this little pill...lol

Janice15 - I second staying away from refined sugar AND refined carbs - the bad carbs like white bread, pasta, baked goods that kind of thing. If you can't do w/o bread go for the whole grain type. And Trishain was right about Met being hard on your liver. Make sure they are checking your liver thru bloodwork and I was told to take extra B vitamins (B6 & B12 is what I took extra) because Met deprives the body of these important vitamins. Folic Acid included so if your trying to conceive make sure you're taking 800-1000mg of it.
As far as alcohol, I always took it easy w/ that, only having one or two drinks at a time and I never suffered for it but I know A LOT of women get really sick on just one drink so I would start out very slow. Greasy food was my downfall, that's when the big D would kick-in for me
Morgan-Thanks for the advise!! I'm on 500 mg and this is only day 2 but its kicking my butt! Should only take 1 B12 and 1 B6 a day? Looks like I have some shopping to do for some reason I woke up with lower back pain.
Have a wonderful weekend!

I started with 500 mg of Metformin and within hours called my doctor to tell him that Immodium was my friend! He assured me he could alleviate the issue and asked me to come in the next day. He performed this bizarre technique that actually worked: Applied Kinesiology. It's some kind of energy thing that is definitely not practiced in mainstream medicine, but I'm open-minded, and it worked. Haven't had a problem since and now I'm up to 2000 mg.
WELL THE HAS GOTTEN BETTER THANKS GOD, AF CAME ON FRIDAY DO YOU THINK THAT IT HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE MET?? I WAS 9 DAYS LATE AND SHE IS STILL HERE URRR! I HAVE NOTICED THAT I DON'T GET HUNGRY LIKE BEFORE WHICH IS A GOOD THING MAYBE I CAN START LOSING SOME OF THIS DEAD WEIGHT..LOL

Yes, met can make you loose your appetite. I always loose at least some weight while on it (and I'm a thin cyster so I'm not trying). Adding low carb /good carb to it does it even faster. I think most of my symptoms went away after about a month or so (and they weren't as severe that whole time). Glad to hear its getting a little better.
