My Mood: Points: 89.91 Bank: 677.16 Total Points: 767.07 | A little info When my docter first talked to me about Met and how it works for PCOS he told me that studies have shown that less then 1500mg or three pills a day were not very effective.I no we all have to start out at a low dose to get your body adjusted to it.He also told me that 2000mg is the dosage used to controll diabetes. Now i was not diagnosed with diabetes but am considerd borderline so he has me on 2000mg,after three monthes on the drug my insulin dropped dramatically back to normal range.Anyway i was wondering had any of you been told this .He had also told me that the national diabetic associationwas working to approve metformin as a form of help with dieting, because you can be insulin resistant without having pcos ,and the medication wont hurt you . Anyway just thought i would pass that along.

I used the salivia ovulation microscope, which I until this day have had mixed responses. I started on May 1st and today is the 16th (australia) and according to that I have ovulated twice, and today I got another positive. Hubby and I were excited initially that we thought we were ovulating but have now realised that its the hormone inbalance in my body, so oestregone must be higher or something. My GP told me on the phone that its either hormone imbalance or pregnancy (which i am in the 2ww). Hope that helps!

I have been on met for about the same time as u and not all that sure whats going on, my ovualtion microscope is telling me mixed things. Did you get AF or did you just find out you were pregnancy before hand? Hubby is a little excited thinking that we may be pregnancy but trying not to get hopes up. Be great to hear from you.

I hope that this medicine works for me like some of you. Not sure if I have lost any weight. Trying to stay off the scale. Not sure if I am ovulating either. Me and DH would so much like to have a baby though. I try not to worry about it though cause we don't want to get our hopes up and be disappointed. We tried clomid about 3 years ago and after about 4 rounds decided to stop cause nothing was happening. I was prescribed met by my gyno last month. Started taking it April 1st. Maybe something good will come my way soon. |

My Mood: Points: 537.81 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 537.81 | Hey girls. I have a question and hopefully someone will have some experience in this. I started met in Feb, 1000 mg. March, I took 1500mg, nothing happened. So in April i upped myself to 2000mg and i took that for 4 days, then af came. It was a weird AF though, like it wasnt a real "flow" i guess i can say. And it also lasted 16 days. SO... now its may 16th, and still on 2000mg and NO AF and no signs or anything of it comming!!! Im so tired of this.... Usually when i got AF on my own, my boobs always hurt like 2 weeks before. Last month, my AF with met, they didnt hurt at all, and this month they still dont hurt. Well, any advice will be appreciated!!! THanx girls, babydust to all of us!!!!

welcome to the thread.
thats good to hear. i remember my stomach got so much fat that ppl thought i was preg. ppl even asked me that how many months i was, which was embarassing for me and for the ones who asked. i also got bad fat on my triceps and face/chin area... exercise did not help me. met reduced the bad fat.
i will pray that met works well for u and will wait to hear the good story.

My Mood: Points: 3,994.73 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 3,994.73 | Hi everyone. I have read a lot of met successes here and am inspired. I have been off and on met since being diagnosed in 2005. Unfortunately, I never take it long enough to see changes in AF and O. I did see changes in my skin, acne went away entirely while on it. The longest I've taken it is one and a half months in feb and march. During this time I did take clomid and everything worked perfectly, but I got a BFN . So met does work for me, but I just don't continue it. One problem I have is that met makes me constipated, badly. Most people have diarrhea and I do at first but it quickly turns to constipation I don't know why.
Another problem I have, and I think its my biggest weakness when it comes to treatments, is that I am very inpatient. I want to be able to see results now. I am constantly changing my mind about which meds I want to take. I can't stick to one for more than a week or two. I've tried insulite, which I thought was working but my acne got so so bad that I decided to go back to met. I've tried inositol for 2 weeks, didn't feel anything but I still take it. I am also trying the buckwheat farinetta for DCI, but it tastes so nasty. These trials with different treatments have been my effort to steer away from docs, which I have never had much luck with.
So i have come to the conclusion that met may be the med for me. I think I just need to stay on it long enough. I would love to be able to get AF and O on my own. Thank you all for sharing your stories. It has made me realize that I've been foolish in not taking met.

My Mood: Points: 3,994.73 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 3,994.73 | I was wondering, for any of you that have had success with met, what were your levels before starting?
My fasting insulin was 29 with 1000mg a day for 1 and 1/2 months.
testosterone 109 - explains hair and acne
Fasting glucose 74
glucose tolerance test
1 hour 104
2 hour 109
I am going back to met starting with 1000mg a day for 1 week and will increase to 1500mg a day for another week. When I took 1000mg, my acne improved big time but as you can see from my #s my levels were still elevated. I don't know if I will up it to 2000mg yet, I will probably stay at 1500mg for a month. I guess it depends on how I feel. Though I have read here that 2000mg helps most cysters.
What are your levels and what dose of met helped you the most (your threshold)?

My Mood: Points: 1,542.41 Bank: 7,374.54 Total Points: 8,916.95 | Cindy - I'd suggest starting at 500mg, 1000 is a bit much. Do 500 for a week or so, and when the side effects start to ease off bump it up another 500 at a time. You have to take it consistently in order for your body to get used to it. It really does help, although you might question it the first few weeks as you get used to it. Try to take it about a half hour before meals so that it has time to be absorbed into your body before you eat. And try not to eat too many carbs! Hope that helps.
