I had success - which in my case was defined as having a healthy baby after years of infertility and losing 2 babies.

My success came after upping my dosage to 2000mg/day. I had been taking 1500/day plus clomid with no luck.

I did have some side effects at first, but after a month at that dose, I was fine. It was worth it!

I've been on Met now since mid-April, but it makes me so sick to take more than 500 mg at a time! I've tried upping my dosage but every time I get so sick! Will it get better? Do you think I'll still see results with 500 mg???

Thank you all!

becky... everytime I upped past 500 I got sick too... so I would take it.. then just quit completly...this last time of taking the met... I just bucked up and dealt with the sick... it took a week or two with each time... but I would get through the sick.. then felt better... when I upped by another 500... I would spend 1-2 weeks sick... then it would taper off... have you given it much time for your body to adjust? For me, I didn't notice a big difference in symptoms until I was up to 2000... but everyone is different, and maybe you'll get benefit out of a lower dose.

good luck!

Yes, I'm with Gertie. For me the first day or two was rough when I upped my dose, but by a week I was fine until I upped again, then the first day or two was hard adn I was fine after a week on the next dose, etc..

The results were certainly worth it for me!

Yeah I read an article ( I can't remember where) that says that fluffy cysters do better on ER and thinner cysters on regular. Not sure why though. I'm thin and am on regular.

What are the benefits up increasing your dose? Because I'm currently on 500mg twice a day

Smile Do not give up on the Met.

My 17 year old daughter's biggest complaint was nausea. She was taking 500mg twice a day. she always took it with a meal. She went up to 1500mg daily and the nausea returned. It helps if you eat half your meal, take the met, then continue eating. She now takes 2000mg daily and it took this dose to finally get her period back after a year. Unfortunately i think you have to deal with the nausea for a few days and then it just fades as your body adjusts. The end result was definitely worth it for her. It has not helped much with weight loss for her, though she does feel much better and has increased energy. She is also following a low GI, diabetic diet.

for me.. the benefits of uppping my dose of met... were that I didn't start ovulating until I was at 2000 mg... I didn't start getting my period again until 1500 mg... so for me, I had to have higher doses...

I also didn't get much help in the weight loss area... but it helped with my carb cravings a bit... so that's a good thing...

Default Met

I am taking 1500mg of met everyday. I have been since April 1, 2008. It has helped me have AF every 30 to 31 days and according to my chart it says that I ovulate on day 16 or 17 but I have still not gotten preg. Any suggestions?

Default trying to be patient...

Hey guys

I started taking Metformin 3 weeks ago today. I finally got over the nausea (oh my goodness I thought I was going to die!). How long did it take for you to see results of weight loss? I've gained so much in the past year because of my pcos, and I'm having a really hard time with it. I was always a really thin girl and am not used to being otherwise. I keep having to buy pants in bigger sizes (I've gone from an 8 to a 14 in a year) and it's really starting to get me down. I know I need to be patient, but even if I saw a little difference to know that it's working would really boost my spirits I think. I see the endo on July 31st again and if I didn't lose enough weight he wants to put me on Byetta (which I don't want to do!!!).

Any guidance is appreciated. Thanks so much.

Steph

Steph - I totally know what your feeling. In the past 4 years that we've been going through Fertility treatments my weight sky rocketed!!! I went from an 8 to an 18...It was and still is a big adjustment. But my RE put me on 2000mg of Met XR and the South Beach diet. The Met XR doesn't cause all the stomach problems!!! I take 4 pills before I go to bed and I feel great! I thought he was an idiot at first since no diet has ever truly worked. But it's been since May and I've lost 30 pounds...I still have 50 pounds to get to my goal but it's been easy to follow and the fact that I'm seeing the weight come off makes it that much better! It's truly a lifestyle change...I had to finally say do I want a baby or not? And I chose the baby...So good luck with everything! If you need to talk that's what were here for...
