My Mood: Points: 133.36 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 133.36 | I was diagnosed with PCOS 5 yrs ago but started taking Metformin in Feb as a last resort...my weight shot up from my 5'3 130 pounds to 188 pds in about a year for no reason, it was heartbreaking and overwhelming...Since Met I have dropped down to around 150 which feels amazing. I didn't really have to change my eating or excercise habits. I hope all goes well for you.... |

I was diagnosed a few weeks ago and have been on the medication since June 19th. My doc started me at 500MG once a day for seven days. Then 500MG twice a day for seven days. Then 500MG three times a day for the remainder. I just assumed I was supposed to spread the dosing out. Can i take it all at once? |

Points: 604.22 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 604.22 | After years of dealing with female problems- surgery twice for endometriosis (being told my odds for getting pregnant would be slim to none without medical intervention- I got pregnant while on the pill), two exploratory scopes, Uterine prolapse, multiple trials on various drugs including various estrogen levels of birth control.
My doctor recently did some blood work on me and diagnosed me as having PCOS. He placed me on aldactone (twice a day) and metformin (three times a day- although I only take when I eat- which is usually twice a day) (Dr knows my modifications and is okay with it.) In the last 6 months I have lost 64 pounds without really trying. All of my weight was/is around my middle section and nothing ever made it budge. I try to make healthy food decisions and my taste buds have changes dramatically... I no longer can eat an adult size fast food meal. If I have to get fast food, I usually opt for either a kids meal or a hamburger. The weight loss was a secondary thought. I was more concerned about feeling better and not having so much female pain and misery from my period. My periods are now regulated more so than ever before, I do not have as much bloatedness as before (some months I would be overly bloated for 2 weeks at a time), my cramping is not as bad, my monthly pain before and after my period is not as strong as it was before. When my dr told me that siome people lose weight on these meds for PCOS I really did not give it a second thought, I thought "whatever".. I went into this just happy that I had a proper diagnosis. I am not sure if the weight loss/ appetite loss is from the metformin or the aldactone, but in any event, I dont want to "change the formula" because it has been two-fold- both with the female problems and secondary the weight loss. I want to start walking/exercising and hope to lose another 29 pds. |

Points: 604.22 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 604.22 | I actually had never heard of PCOS. My doctor started talking to me about it, telling me about some of the symptoms. I did not have alot of the symptoms, but I remember when I had endometriosis, my sister had it also, but she had a worse level of it, yet her only problem was infertility. I had it and had severe cramping/bleeding/nausea/severe back pain and yet my endometriosis was not as bad as hers.
Where do you live? If you are near me I will give you the name of my dr. He is wonderful- very compassionate.
Does your doctor not think you have it? |

Points: 2,375.79 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 2,375.79 | i have been ttc ever sice i got married, almost 3 years ago. we have had 1 pregnancy with the help of clomid. but misscarried at 5 weeks. tha was 1.5 years ago. i just started met. a couple weeks ago. im taking 1500 aday. today im finally taking all 3 pills. reading all your stories makes me have some hope. since i have been off clomid my cycles r long again, one was 77 days and the last 98 day. i got my period a few days after starting the met. so i dont know if the met. that made it start or if it came on its own. clomid made me ovulate, but it might of helped if the doctor would have did the lap. to clear my blocked tube before we finished clomid.
i always got my period when i was on bcps. but when not on them i have always been irregular.so i really hope that the met. gets it normal.
is it okay to eat fruit? if so when and how much.

Points: 2,007.17 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 2,007.17 | Hi everyone,
I am only on Met for one week (after years of begging doctors to help) and I dont know if its all in my head but I am feeling fantastic.
I had problems with lack of periods and infertility years ago and after losing weight I conceived naturally. I have 2 kids now (no meds) and my period problem seems to have corrected itself after pregancy and birth.
My main problem with PCOS was the constant craving for sugar, sugar and more sugar. people would be gobsmacked at me tearing into a box of chocs and not stopping until they were gone and NOT FEELING SICK. It was becoming worse and the final straw was when I sat at home one weekend and ate 2 LARGE jars of chocolate spread straight out the jar. I was seeing black dots everywhere once I had finished but I never felt sick.
It was a vicious circle, the more sugar I ate, the more tired I became etc. This has been going on for years. I had a glucose test and all was fine, when I read up about Insulin resitance I have every single symptom so I knew this sugar thing was not all in my head or greed. Family used to witness the shaking episodes if I never ate within 2 hours etc. No doctor was interested and laughed at me and basically I have been told its everything from greed to being told to go and have counselling that it could be emotionally linked. Never have I been so frustrated in all my life with doctors/hospitals.
Anyway like I said after begging for met, I have been on it 1 week. The first couple of days I was still reaching for the fruit to get a sugar fix somehow but now I dont even want fruit. I dont feel half as tired but the biggest change I have noticed was my tummy. For years I would be ok one day but the next I would look about 10months pregnant it was so so bad. This has all gone, my stomache is the same at night as it is in the morning.
I cant beleive this medication its already changed my life.
Can this all be possible that it has worked within a week?????? |
