Default Metformin SUCKS

It's been almost a week of taking it, and I still hate it. I have been so nauseous all day long and Fri and Sat I actually ended up vomiting. I really can't imagine having to take 3 pills a day. UHG. I am sure that it will get better after a while, but it is a bit frustrating right now because the only way I feel better is by laying down. Who in the world has time for that all day??

Totally understand how you feel. Those are my exact feelings the first time I started taking Met. But from experience, I can honestly tell you that IT DOES GET BETTER! I promise. The first two weeks for me are the absolute worst; diarrhea, nausea, calling in sick to work, and just wanting to lie down all day and sleep. Sooner then later, you will take your pills, prepare yourself for hours of nausea, and realize that you don't feel that bad. The next day after that will be easier, and so will the next, and so on.

I think that everyone's different so it will depend on your body what you can/can't eat while on Met and when/how to take it. For me, I need to take Met in the MIDDLE of a decent sized meal and to drink LOTS AND LOTS of water during that meal. I usually try to drink a glass and a half of water before I eat, take my pill in the middle of the meal, and then drink at least 2 more glasses throughout the meal. This will almost always ensure no side effects for me. Also, I can pretty much eat anything except for anything that is high in sugar and high in carbs. I've read on hear that some ladies can't eat eggs or lettuce or else they'll get sick.

I don't know how much Met you're taking, but I'm currently taking 2000 mgs (4 pills) a day. But it's taken me a couple of months to get there. Good luck. You can do it!!! Stick with Met,.. it WILL get better.

Thanks for the advice! I really need to work on drinking more water. I started filling up a QT cup with ice water and that is helping some.

Right now, I am taking 500, and working on going up to 1500. I tried taking 2 pills on Saturday (one at breakfast, on at lunch) and WOAH it was bad. I know it will get better eventually, I will really start working on drinking more water.

it really helped me to take this yogurt concoction with the met. i take a plain organic yogurt of some sort .. i like brown cow brand or sometimes i will get a vanilla yogurt with no sugar added. Fage is also great and high in protein. or check for a yogurt with live active cultures. don't just get the run of the mill low fat yogurts at the store because a lot of these are 'diet friendly' but full of artificial sweeteners and lacking in any nutrients or bacteria and so you might as well be eating jello. anyway - get some decent yogurt .. take cup of that and add 4 or 5 blackberries and then some slivered almonds. slivered makes the texture amazing. this is a delicious yummy treat and also something about this combination of foods helps the met(icine) go down.. bonne chance!
