I wasn't sure where to post this, under Metformin or under the Hypothyroidism thread.
My TSH was originally 6.88 back in October. I went on 50 mcg of Synthroid and in November had my labs drawn again, my TSH was a 2.4 so my Doc was happy with where things were at and kept me on same dosage. By January I was starting to feel tired and exhausted again, but new I had labs coming in February so I didn't go see the doc. They got my labs back and my TSH was back up to 5.8. I knew it would be cause I knew I was feelin the way I was before I was diagnosed. So I made an appt. and saw the Doc. She said she didn't want to increase my dosage but she did want to have my labs drawn again. I just had them drawn last week and my TSH is a 1. But I feel sometimes jittery, but mostly I can just feel my heart racing, and I've got some nausea and nothing really tastes good. KWIM? I just had an appointment a few days ago. I wasn't sure what it was. I get anxiety before goin to the Doctor, so I thought it was just that, my heart also races before an appt. don't ask me why. But I'm still feeling it every day, so it can't be just anxiety from goin to the Doc. I thought maybe it might be combo of the increase of Metformin, she increased me from 1000 mg a day to 2000 mg a day. I just know that how I'm feeling doesn't feel right. Has anyone else ever experienced these same things?
Is anyone taking Metformin and Synthroid together? Is how I'm feeling normal? Do you think it will pass? Is part of what Im feeling the Metformin increase? Is my thyroid getting to low? Is it one thing or is it both? I just need some input.
I am under a lot of stress right now, won't get into the details could it be stress? I've only been taking the Metformin at this dosage for 7 days.
And the rapid heart doesn't go on an on and on all day long it kinda ebbs n flows. Does that make sense? I have increased my exercise the last week, maybe I'm pushing too hard...I don't know.
Any thoughts or ideas I would appreciate them all.

I believe the racing heart is from the Synthroid. I haven't heard of Met causing it. You probably have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis which can cause your TSH levels to swing from high to low. Eventually you will even out a bit and the heart racing will go away. I suspect this is why your doc didn't increase your dosage when your TSH climbed again in Feb. It takes a while to get your dosage just right (and eventually it will need to be increased).
Also, the racing heart could be due to anxiety and the more you try to figure it out and think about it, the worse it can be. I'm sure you know.
Oh, and I noticed you posted something about nausea...this is probably the Met. Are you on the XR (extended release)? If not, you may want to consider switching if your symptoms don't subside in a couple of weeks. The XR is supposedly easier on the tummy.
HTH. Best wishes!

I'm also on Synthroid and Met. I'm not a dr., but I also think your problem is related to your thryoid. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's in January of 2008 and it wasn't until December that I my thyroid was stable. My TSH would be .002 and then a few weeks later it would be 19! I don't remember my heart racing but I do remember having occasional shortness of breath, among other issues, like tingling hands and feet, dizziness and fatigue. I started Met in October, and by then my thyroid was starting to stablize, so I know my problems were not related to Met. Fortunately I did not experience any major side affects from Met, but some women do, so its something worth talking about with your Dr. I'm on 2000 XR. Hang in there . . . .and good luck!
