Hi Ladies-
I know Iam late with this thread but I can be almost %99 certain that the pains you all are describing (underbreast bone, shoulder blade, back pains) are gallstones.

I suffered with this horendous pain for 4 yrs before the Dr.s really got to the bottom of it. After several test, upper endoroscopies, swollowing prodecured ect ect, they finally ran a simple ultrasound and found many gallstones.

I had my gallbladder removed and ever since then I have NEVER had that pain again! talk about such a relief!
Everytime I had the pain I thought I was gonna die, seriously its the worst and scariest. Often times I described it as feeling like I was having a heart attack becuase it would literally take my breath away. The ambulance was called on me once and I was rushed to the hospital twice. The pain mostly triggured in my sleep..in the night hour.

Iam so glad to have my gallbladder out and so greatful to the Dr. who got to the bottom of that problem becuase it does NOT feel nice at all.

Now, as for metformin....just today my Dr. took me off(after taking it for 2 yrs) and put me on Glyburide. Iam hoping that Glyburide will keep my cycles on track as the MET did. HOWEVER the metformin side effects were getting to be too much for me with having to almost eat my meals at the nearest bathroom if you know what I mean. I also started feeling strong symptoms of lactic acidosis which is quite scary so im rather happy to be going off of met.

Hi all,

So im very late in response, but new on here. I find this incredibly interesting as i have been dealing with these same pains and bowel issues for some time. I really thought i was losing my mind with all the tests ive had done and nothing coming of it. Again my doctor thought maybe acid, although i think i know the difference as i am no stranger to heartburn. This is certainly some food for thought!!

Hey ladies, I just wanted to inform all of you of a great naturopathic doctor that I went to in order to treat my PCOS and gallstones. While I was on Metformin (2000mg) I suffered some very severe stomach problems plus constipation. I was also having major chest pains (felt like a heart attack/kinda like someone was compressing my back and chest together) and my breastbone would hurt majorly after every attack.
Apparently I found out that gallstones+the metformin were the cause of my acid reflux. The metformin was causing more acid to come up and once I stopped it, the acidity calmed down some.

Also, these chest pains usually occurred during the nighttime, especially during 3am. Afterwards I would burp a lot (huge airbubble forms when you are not eating correctly or waiting long periods to eat, once I switched my diet they didn't occur as often). While these chest pains are occuring its good to make some anise (not the star ones, the little seeds) tea w/some ginger. This tea helped me a lot. Also raising your pillow really helps with the acid.

If you have these chest pains, acid reflux, and severe pain in the upper right abdomen heading towards the back, and frequent chills, then you might have gallstones! and the metformin will cause more adverse effects if you take it while having gallbladder problems ( I had major acid coming up, and was throwing up a lot, constant stomach, pain constipation, and my period stopped).

Many doctors will immediately resort to surgery, even if they find that you have the tiniest gallstones. I have gotten rid of my gallstones naturally by doing 2 flushes (basically I just drank some apple juice after every meal for a day, and then at night time mixed some orange juice with olive oil and drank a senna natural laxative---sometimes this process may take longer for people depending on how many stones you have) and most of my gallstones came out.

I sought out this doctor after I continued to have some pain in the right abdominal region. He gave me some great homeopathic & herbal medicine, and this has gotten rid of all the pain, and has restored my gallbladder to its normal function. I no longer have gallstones, acid reflux or the crazy chest pains that were destroying my life! Please don't only resort to surgery(it's extremely expensive) but consider alternative medicine.

His name is Dr. Sean Heerey and he is a Naturopathic physician. He is in downtown NY. So for those of you who live in NY/North Jersey, you are in luck! You can check out his website just by typing in his name (drseanheerey) in google or doing a general search.

He is amazing! he will answer all your questions and even gets back to you by email if you have an important question.

Hope this helps all of you guys!
