Default Metformin without IR?

Hey ladies... I haven't been on here in a while. Anyway things are getting pretty crazy over here in TTC LAND. My doc had me get all my hormones and thyroid checked. She also checked my insulin and glucose levels. EVERYTHING was normal except for testosterone. I have high testosterone. During the ultrasound the doctor said, "Slightly enlarged left ovary and multiple follicles". I have no idea what that means and stupid me for not asking! I kind of go speechless when I hear things sometimes.

Anyway, does anyone else here take Metformin and you don't have insulin resistance? You just take it to help regulate your hormones??? All the testosterone-lowering medications are SCARY and have serious side effects (way worse then Metformin... I could probably DIE taking the other meds).

I'm going to call my doc tomorrow to schedule an appt. to figure things out but I need assurance or SOMETHING. I need to know there's someone out there like me. I've been TTC for months now and I don't have CM production (plan on taking evening primrose oil). Anyone else out there?! Please!!!

Hi there.. You are not alone, Im in the same boat as you. I dont have IR, but am still on the met to regulate my hormones.. Im on 1500 mg a day.

Your ovary could be enlarged because of small tiny cysts on the ovary (follicles that never got around to becoming eggs).. Im guessing here, because thats what I have. of course your doctor should be able to tell you exactly what it is with you..

I am TTC too and have been for 7 months.. Met is also supposed to lower the risk of miscarriage, so thats another reason why we are prescribed met even though we are not IR

HTH and all the best to you!

I'm on Met and my bloodwork does not show that I am IR. But my endo says I show signs of possible IR on my knees, elbows etc...

I'm not IR either & have been on met for 3 wks. We've been TTC for nearly a year. I also have elevated testosterone levels & was told met would help regulate them. About 4-5 yrs ago my right ovary was enlarged & has 18-20 cysts on it.

You guys are awesome! Thank you so much for responding. I feel a lot better knowing that I'm not alone and that there is SOMETHING I can do to help this! While taking medication isn't ideal, YAY! I can get this taken care of!

THANK YOU!!!
