I'm 23 and up until recently, suffered from persistant acne and haven't had a "real" period (without the pill) since I was 17. I'm thin, and lab work doesn't show that I have insulin resisitance, but I did have elevated testosterone (74). I read an article about lean, non-IR women with PCOS who tried Metformin and resumed regular menstrual cycles and convinved my doctor to try it out.
I started 1500 mg of Metformin in mid-February, and my skin cleared up within 2 weeks. 2 months later, I lost my bloated belly. 3 months later, I had my testosterone tested and found that with Metformin, it dropped from 75 to 45. My fasting insulin was only 1.7. I was happy with all these results but still worried about my period. Well, this week, after 5 months on Metformin, I finally got it! I have been off the pill for over a year and haven't had one, so it has to be the Metformin! I'm so happy! I was resorting to the fact that I might not have my own kids, but I doubt that's the case now thanks to this drug. Also, to maintain my weight, I used to watch what I ate all the time, and now I treat myself more often. I never have to cover up my face with foundation because my skin is always clear! And I get to complain about cramps and PMS symptoms with all my "normal" girlfriends. Weird thing to enjoy... but I really appreciate feeling like a healthy woman. I hope it comes again in 28 days!
So, for any supposedly non-IR, thin women out there who are unsure about what to try next, give Metformin a try. In the end, it's worth begging conservative doctors for the prescription and the 2 initial weeks of nausea.
Beth that is fabulous! I'm so glad it works for you!
Is it really only 2 weeks of nausea? lol!! I have been taking it for about a week but feel a little like I did with morning sickness! But for the moment, whenever I think the side effects are not worth it I shall come back and read your post!

I'm happy for you, Beth! That article on non-IR. thin cysters on Met was pretty groundbreaking, and goes to show that the benefits of Met extend beyond just the hormone insulin. My own results were far slower, but no less extra-ordinary...i feel like I have a new lease on my life!
All the best!
