Exclamation Metformin XR + Spironolactone

I am taking 2000 mg of Metformin XR and most recently within the last few months Spironolcatone 100mg.

Taking both of these and increasing my Metformin from 1000 mg to 2000 mg has resulted in normal periods- I was taken off Ortho-Tricyclen earlier this year.

It took 2 months or so to gain a normal cycle again. It was normal when I was on birth control, but my testosterone levels ironically had become higher, so I chose to come off of it (since that's the main reason I was on it). My doctor gave me a choice of different birth control or coming off of it, and I didn't want to be on it since I was given Spironolactone on top of Metformin and a few other medications I was/am taking. No sense in taking more medication than needed.

So choosing not to take BCP and testing out my cycles and total body reaction to ONLY being on Metformin and Spiro together has so far proven to be a good decision.

I also take Cymbalta for anxiety, though it has caused sleeplessness and insomnia. I take Tylenol PM or Sominex, occassionally Benadryl, to help me sleep. Doctor said I could also take Lunesta, but it's expensive even with insurance. May as well take cheap over the counters! Cymbalta is great for anxiety and alertness and though sleeplessness is very frustrating, I feel so much better during the day. It's incredible!

Also on Synthroid, and have been for years for Hypothyroidism. That has not changed, dosage or thyroid levels. Lucky little me!

Starting Spironolactone and the increase in Metformin are to decrease my high testosterone levels and help in losing weight as well.

Spiro totally halted my periods, so i had to go off of the drug. But met alone with the IR diet and exercise has been the magic number for me.

I'm glad you found the combo for you! Best of luck!
