Default Methergine for missed miscarriage-how long will it take?

Got a Rx for Methergine today...u/s Thursday showed the baby grew to 10.1 weeks, I am supposed to be just over 12 now. No cramping or bleeding at all.....

The midwife was very kind, and discussed it with me, saying that it could happen anytime, really, and if nothing happened in 2 weeks to give a call to see the Doc, or if I just couldn't take it anymore in a week and nothing had happened to give a call anyway...but I really would be happy to hear what anyone else's time to get the *show on the road* was after taking this, or having a missed miscarriage with no warning.

Rant: I know this sounds impatient and whiny, and all I can say is that I am tired of living on a hormonal rollercoaster where I can't eat, sleep, or exercise the way I am used to when dealing with stress. I want to go back to low carb, 3 meals a day, no nausea if I eat just a piece of cheese and V-8 for a snack, running and lifting weights and being able to at least attempt to flogg the extra 10 pounds off my body. I want a double espresso to start the day and not get nauseated from it. I know that if I can start to feel better physically, the emotional will be easier cope with. OK, rant part over.

ETA: Sorry if I offended anyone since the original title included the word abortion----I suppose I am still so numb with shock I just assumed everyone used that term. I personally keep calling it the tiny dead baby.......it seems accurate to me but it makes DH's eyes tear up.

Hon, I don't know anything about the prescription you were given, I just wanted to say how sorry I am for your loss. I know what you mean about how feeling better physically will help your emotional state as well. I pray that you are able to find peace soon.

Methergine??

I have never heard of it. I found this...

http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic2/methylerg.htm

which seems like it would not induce miscarriage... ???

Are you sure that's what you were given? How was it administered?

I took cytotec (misoprostol) which is apparently an ulcer drug with the side effect of causing uterine contractions. It is supposed to be effective taken orally or vaginally... but when I took it orally all it did was give me the worst gas I have ever had in my life. I was bloated and farting for at least 12 hours.

I took a second dose vaginally about 48 hours after the first... more like 53 hours really... took it a Thursday night around 7pm... passed the empty sac around noon the next day.

I don't know how fast it would go if you were further along - I was only 7 weeks and nothing ever developed in the sac for me.

I don't think you sound whiny at all... I think it's the most normal thing in the world to want this to be over and move on. I hated waited for it to happen, I felt trapped in my house because I didn't want to be out in public with IT started happening you know? For me, it actually was no where near as bad as I feared physically when it finally happened, but I had less development, so i can't say what it will be like for you... but I hope you can put this behind you soon.

It took about 2 weeks for me to start bleeding and then abut 3 days or so before the baby came out. I didn't take any meds for it. I just let it happen.
I felt the same way you do too, I wanted this to be over so I could move on. I don't think you sounded whiney either.
I'm sorry you have to be going through this--it sucks.

Thanks for the support guys.

I had a lot of cramping with the Methergine but it wasn't enough to make me bleed at all. They said they tried it first since it helps control bleeding and separate the placenta from the uterus. At least, it is not used in PG since it can prematurely separate the placenta....apparently mine is firmly stuck in there :

So I will give a call today about Cytotc suppository---I am moving in a month and need to have this over with. While I'd really prefer to wait and see if my body can do this naturally, I think its a very bad idea to not have followed this through to completion before I take off and move.
