I had a methotrexate shot in September. I had not had any bleeding before and my beta was rising, but not good enough. There was nothing found at our first ultrasound, so we were supposed to come back in a week but we ended up in the ER in excrutiating pain. I didn't need surgery since the ectopic was on my ovary.
Here is a little of what I wish people had told me before I got it:
1. The shot will make you feel really fatigued. I also got a few sores in my mouth. I literally wanted to sleep all day, but this went away after 2 weeks.
2. I never knew that I would actually miscarry the tissue after methotrexate. I don't know if this is common. 2 weeks after I was given the shot, I developed a backache that got progressively worse. That night, I started bleeding. I bled heavily for 4 days and I cramped on/off. I ended up passing the tissue, and it was sort of like mini-labor (it was uncomfortable but I got through it w/o meds).
3. My betas did not decrease like women who had a uterine miscarriage. My betas were much higher than yours (6300 at the time of the shot), and it took 10 weeks total for them to reach zero. I hope it does not take that long for yours to reach zero!
You'll get through this. I'm so sorry you're going through this! I just kept reminding myself that the methotrexate was going to help save my future fertility--it got me through somehow. It's hard at times, but it will get easier!
