you know if need be you can switch your doc, so that you can have a more understanding doc, get him to refer you to a gyn and then that doc will run test and you should have a referral from there in a year at the least unless your ttc and you tell the doc that.
Sorry so long I just know what i went through to get to where I'm at.

And you can change your primary, you can call tricare to let them know you want to switch or mention it when you call to make an appointment. I switched when I went to my first appointment and the doctor told me that a year of unprotected sex didn't count as "trying", and she prescribed me progesterone when she had the paper in her hand that told her I'm allergic.

For us... it has been an absolute disaster! We're stationed in Okinawa, Japan, my husband is ACT AF... My PCM will not give me a referall, I was diagnosed at Women's health and my PCM demanded a rediagnosis! She even told us that she wants us to try for a year 1/2 to 2 years! It's frustrating... especially when you know that any amount of time really won't increase my chances if I'm not ovulating.
But I hope that things go better for you.

Mrs. Major, I go to Boone. I went to Portsmouth in the beginning, but I had them move me to Boone. The long waits and impersonal care that I received at Portsmouth just wasn't for me. I was spoiled back at my RE and OB's offices back in Alabama. I'm actually going down there to have this baby.
Hey Ladies! Im an AF spouse too! We are stationed at Avaino in Italy. When I was back in the states I want to a RE in Florida! I loved them. They tried 3 rounds of clomid with iui but it didnt work then we did a round of gonal-f with timed intercourse and it didnt work, then we had to leave Now im stuck with the only option of getting a referal off base but im kinda nervous to do things at an Italian hospital.. When I did the injects tircare would not pay for the meds if it was inconjunction with ivf or iui??? Isnt that what you did Mrsmajor? When I did do iuis with clomid I had to pay 300 out of pocket. Maybe it is different because im a spouse and not in the service. Or because it was Florida lol.

Hi Ladies! I am a Navy wife currently stationed in Norfolk, VA but will have already gotten orders for Jacksonville, FL in March 2010. I've not had any issues with Tricare other than them having the wrong address in the system (3 times) and having to keep voiding claim checks. I switched from Prime to Standard so that I would have more control over who I see. I thought the out of pocket expense would be an issue but it hasn't. I've had more appts than I can count, 5 Clomid rounds, a pregnancy (ending in 2nd trimester miscarriage), and now am awaiting an appt for abdominal cerclage in Chicago. I only paid 21 dollars for ALL my doctors visits pertaining to fertility since July 2008. My clomid is 3 dollars for each round, and of course, pregnancy/maternal visits have no copay. I think that is AWESOME!

Italy was the top of our dream sheet, and we were disappointed to end up here in TX, but now I'm feeling grateful to be stationed stateside because I don't have to stress about the doctors off base.
Are you tricare prime TiffanyTully? and was the $300 all you had to spend for the 3 rounds of Clomid + IUI?

Mrs.Major: I'm glad you've gotten great treatment! I've only gone there for the "regular" OB type things, not for anything else. I'm not a long-time patient, to say the least. I'm sure a lot of people have GREAT experiences there, especially those that have been seeing the same provider(s) over a period of time .I just haven't received great care. I really hope everyone else has better experiences than I did.
In regards to coverage under Tricare Prime, this is what is stated regarding infertility:
Quote:
Infertility Treatment
TRICARE may cover the following types of infertility testing and treatment.
Diagnostic services to identify physical illnesses or injuries to the reproductive system are covered for both men and women. Infertility treatments, corrective treatments and surgeries for women are also covered. However, correction of male infertility may be cost shared, which is determined on a case-by-case basis.
Therapies covered by TRICARE include hormonal treatment, corrective surgery, antibiotics, administration of human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) or radiation therapy depending on the cause. These therapies are covered for both sexes.
TRICARE also provides medically necessary appropriate medical care for erectile dysfunction due to organic, vice psychological or psychiatric, causes.
Exclusions:
In-vitro fertilization (IVF) for women (see note below)
Reversal of surgical sterilization is not covered for either sex.
A note about IVF: While TRICARE does not cover IVF, there are four military treatment facilities (MTFs) where IVF medical training programs are conducted. Beneficiaries who participate in these programs will be responsible for all MTF costs.
Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio
Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu
Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C.
Mrs.Major: Looks like things have changed for me. I will be going to Portsmouth for the rest of my pregnancy, but I'll be seen in Mat/Fet Med rather than by the doctor that I had issues with before...which is good.
I'm a Navy Wife and I have Tricare Prime. I don't know how other forms of Tricare work, I've only had prime. I've been battling with TTC with PCOS for almost 5 years I've been with my current RE for almost 2. Tricare has covered all testing and ultrasound monitoring as well as all of my medications. I get 40 vials of inject-able meds (usually costing $3000+) for $9. I only pay a copay because I can't wait for the mail order pharmacy, otherwise it would be free. We've not had an IUI yet, but we've done IVF. And regardless of if we were doing natural relation cycles or cycles for IVF our meds were paid for!
We went to WRAMC and were told the IUI would be $150 for a sperm wash and that would be all we pay. IVF through them was going to be about $5000. This is FAR less than the National Average cost for IVF. However, we found a local RE that has even better prices, so I see a civilian.
You don't have to wait a year and a half of trying, you don't even have to wait a year to be sent to a RE. Since PCOS deals with your reproductive system and your hormones, you have every right to see a Reproductive Endocrinologist at any time. They may suggest you try a few rounds of Clomid to start, so the beginning treatment might not be different, but if you want to go to an RE, go! Tricare covers it. I live about 100 miles from an MTF so I see civilian Dr.'s.

Hey girls, I dis start a Military thread a few months ago, but it did not stick. I am also a military spouse in So. Cal. Dh and I were not yet Married when we got our bfp. But I will tell you a bit of advise for those of you TTC. We (DH and I) ordered FertilAid off the internet and we got our BFP within a month or so after taking it. So if you are having troubles perhaps you may want to try it. Dh did tell me that if we could not conceive on our own that the military does deal with Infertility and take care of IVF.
Congrats to those whom are pregnant. and Good luck sticky baby dust for those of you TTC.
