Default miracle drug?

I'm only on day 3 of taking Met (500 mg) but I've already noticed that my food cravings are gone. Actually didn't realize I was having food cravings until they disappeared. What's amazing is that I don't feel compelled to eat junk food and am able to stop before the entire bag/box is gone.

Also, the energy in my body feels different. The best I can describe it is that I feel more alive/awake.

My endo wants to get me up to the maximum dose and I'm really looking forward to that!

This experience reminds me of when I first started taking anti-depressants and I suddenly felt "ok" for the first time in years.

Yeah, the side effects of Met are crappy (pun intended). But so far absolutely worth it. I'm beginning to think that, at least for me, this is a miracle drug.

Anyone out there have similar experiences?

Thanks!

P.S. I've been lurking on this board ever since I was diagnosed a few weeks ago and I'm grateful to everyone who's told their story and particularly grateful for the discussions of Met side effects. Before taking my first pill I stocked up on all sorts of over-the-counter remedies for GI symptoms. So glad I did that.

I too, am on my first days of metformin. I started it on Satruday, only taking 500mg a day until next saturday when Im going to take the full 1000mg dose. So far, I've been going to the bathroom more than usual (nothing unbearable by any means) and i haven't really had any strong cravings. I think I have already lost weight too...the scale SAYS ive lost about 4lbs...but im going to choose to believe that my scale is crazy or off-track until that number goes down again
Anyway, did your doc tell you to change your diet? What are you doing about diet? I have been eating a balance of carbs to protein. Something I read about in the insulin resistance diet book.

Good luck!

Cara Cell- Congrats on starting treatment! My endo wants me on 500 mg for 2 weeks before I go up to 1000mg. I'm curious about what your experience will be. You know, your scale could be right (with all that quality time in the bathroom). My first couple of days I was sure my entire intestines were going to come out.

About diet and nutrition, I've been aiming for what worked for me years ago when I did Weight Watchers successfully (think my insulin resistance must not have kicked in then because it was really easy to lose weight). Mostly vegetables with some fruit. High protein and high fiber breakfasts. Little to no simple carbs. My endo said she'd refer me to a nutritionist, but that hasn't been scheduled yet.

Ohmygoshkandi- I'm sorry you had a bad experience with the drug.

Manda Mia- That's great that things are going so well (excpt for the stomach stuff). Is your doc planning on increasing your dose soon?
