Or am I way off? Do you just mean the AF bleeding is less? Or you are having less frequent AF's? I thought I read somewhere that some women dont even bleed with AF. My GYN said she wants me to have at least 1 period every 3 months. I was wondering because my Dr. suggested BCP's for me and I dont really like the thought of BCP's but if i have to be on BC I'd rather do an IUD so I dont have to take pills every day.

Oh, I'm so happy it has been working for you!! Lots of people seem to have success and I hope I can be one of them hehe. Sheila
My guess is merely different people, different symptoms.. My period was HIGHLY irregular when i first got it, I'd probably got 8 in the three years before I was diagnosed. After my first laposcropy (sp?) they got more regular, and even though The Pill did nothing for my pain, it DID regulate my periods. BUT the problem my doctor discovered was my cysts form so rapidly that a regular period was...well kinda...bad. It made me get more cysts quicker. Anyway, another laposcropy later and many useless medications which made things worse, my doc decided that because I'm only 15, we don't need to worry about making babies just yet, I just need to be able to get through school pain free.
...Did that make sense? Sorry I'm not good with words

sheila - yes, i still do get my period about once in a month with the mirena. But the flow/pain is less that it was before.

My Mood: Points: 2,544.39 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 2,544.39 | Hi there! I am on mirena also and yes it is working. Welcome to SC :-)
I have been on mirena for almost years- I think it will be 2 in July. At first I had alot (and I mean alot) of breakthrough spotting, but now it seems to be working out better. I think it might have been nerves- whenever I got really nervous, I would bleed.. Has anyone else had that on the mirena??

Points: 16,837.42 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 16,837.42 | I've had mine since last June after having my twins. I haven't had a period since.
After getting it I gained 20 pounds in 2 months and can't get it off to save my life. I eat well and exercise so there is really no other explanation for the weight gain. Plus I also literally had a nervous breakdown a month after getting it. Of course that was diagnosed as PPD but sometimes I wonder.
I know the mirena is a low dose hormone but our poor pcos bodies don't know how to deal with hormones to begin with so I wonder if our bodies react differently to them than a non-pcoser.
I haven't talked to my doctor about it because I know they will dismiss it but if you google weight gain and mirena you'll be surprised what you can find.
I also have high blood pressure since getting it I'm assuming because of the extra weight.

My Mood: Points: 3,495.15 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 3,495.15 | Hey
Thank you all so much for your nice words! I am pretty nervous but it sounds like this has a good chance of working. Sheila
Good luck with talking to your doc!! Klg
Hmm sounds like you got the raw end of the deal! Are you going to keep it in anyway? Perhaps the weight gain will go down within the next year as your body adapts more from your nervous breakdown and PPD. (It could happen! I suffer from PTSD, severe Anxiety and Depression but my weight still goes down when I'm recovering from a panic attack. I'll cross my fingers and toes for you! )
P.S. Thank you all for taking the time to reply to a newbie! Even though I think i posted this in the wrong forum lol.
