My doctor wants to try Mirena IUD ? Anyone with any thoughts . I was just diagnosed in February and after waiting in pain , I am willing to try anything at this point .Overall is it better to try this IUD or am I just prolonging the inevitable of a hysterectomy ..HELP
I've never had an IUD, just wanted to get that out there first off.
BUT...my good friend had a Mirena IUD and it almost ended with her uterus perforating. She went to the ER 3 times with horrible abdominal pain before they found out that the IUD had burrowed almost all the way through her uterus.
Anyway, don't want to scare you out of getting it, but I just wanted to let you know what happened to her.
hi
welcome to sc shows we're all different, i suppose. Ive had my mirena just over 3 years and love it!! The pain is less (period pains), and much much less flow. Have a real good think about it- feel free to pm me if you want

A friend of mine just had to have an IUD surgically removed b/c it had moved up by her liver. I personally don't trust the safety of those devices. But everyone is different.
I have had PCOS for almost 19 years. I had an IUD put in 2 years ago. I am not trying to scare you, but there are warnings about Mirena IUD use in people with PCOS. My ovaries flared up badly while I had it. Sex became very painful as well. I just cramped non-stop and I honestly thought it would just go away. 1.5 years later I had it taken out and switched to a PCOS specialist. He said I should have never been given it. Also during the time I had it, I got a very large painful cyst in my breast. I had an ultrasound and my doctor said it wasn't from the IUD. I started losing hair, and again the doctor "not the IUD". And her response to the pain "It's your PCOS and not the IUD" I had been PCOS symptom free for over 3 years and had lost 60 pounds. The IUD brought all the symptoms back and then some. I honestly think the IUD is awesome for people who don't have PCOS. All my friends without PCOS have no problems. Oh, and I had a period every month I had the IUD. Sometimes I bleed for weeks. My advice is to research it. Read the warnings because I did not, and I regret it. It's not like the worst thing in life, but it was miserable. The really good part of it all is that you can have it removed! Not all doctors really grasp PCOS, and will act like the IUD has no effect on it. My doctor lied to my face and told me the hormone was not systemic and would not effect anything. During my recent laparoscopy, the doctor removed a spot on my cervix from the IUD, and sex is somewhat better. Best of luck!

This is too funny!
I was just going to post a question on here regarding other types of birth control because I hate the Mirena IUD.
I got it in Oct., and I had constant spotting for about 2 months (which is somewhat common).
Then no periods or anything for another 2 months, now for the last three weeks I have had the constant spotting again. I am on Metformin too, so I don't want to screw up anything with that because the Met has worked SO well for 3 years now.
Just wanted to add my experience with the Mirena - thumbs down for me!
Good luck!

Hi .... I have been basically given Merina IUD as a treatment plan. I gained alot of weight back and my period stopped coming every month. Started spotting after taking estradol for 7-10 days last month. Goodness I am tired of drs.
I go to the UW of WASHINGTON womens clinic, and since it is a teaching hospital, I keep getting senior residents. What specialist should i be going to? I heard a Endo Doctor. Well feel free to IM/message/PM me.
