I went to the doctor last week for a gender scan and they couldn't detect a heartbeat. I was suppose to be almost 20 weeks but my baby died at 17 weeks and I had no idea. Has this happened to anyone here? If so, please give me some advice, encouragement or reasons why this can happen in 2nd trimester. Every appt was great nor was anything ever detected that something was wrong with me or the baby. What could have happened? I didn't receive any answers from the doctor and I'm sure they probably don't know but how can I prevent this from happening again? It took me a year and half to get pregnant this time because I don't ovulate on my own. I just got lucky this time. How am I to deal with this. Please help!!

I am so sorry for your loss I can imagine how you feel. I am totally scared for this as well because I don't ovulate. I am 14wks right now and I am under extremely high stress and am scared to death that this is affecting my pregnancy. Mind you I am 28 and this is my first pregnancy ever and maybe my only one. I pray for you that you will remain strong in this difficult time. I pray that you be able to recieve another precious gift of life...you are not alone.
I have no answers for you, I'm sorry. But I'm very sorry for your loss. I can't imagine how difficult it must be for you right now. Please take care of yourself.

I have to ask you this. Did you give birth to the baby or how... did the m/c begin. What I'm really asking is are they going to test the baby like a tiny autopsy to see what happened? Atleast I am hoping they did to give you atleast a small reason as to what could have occured. Things happen for a reason and in a scary unwanted way your child past away now. This will be easier than seeing your child take their first and only breath. I truly wish you the best with everything I pray you get some answers soon. Things in life are SO unfair you almost want to give up. But, DON'T give up! We're all here for you! :::::hugs:::::

Dollface...I am so sorry. :-( We're on the March board together. I'm literally in shock and disbelief and just sad.
Through your work, do you have any type of Employee Assistance Program that you could contact to talk to a professional? Does your insurance cover therapy sessions? They well be able to help you through this. Also...don't hesitate leaning against family and friends (like us!!!) for support as well.
You will get through this...it will just take time. For now...take care of yourself. Again...I'm sorry for your loss.

Asherlexie- I did give birth to the baby last Wednesday. The baby had been dead for almost 3 weeks and I had no clue. I felt something was wrong because of a gut instinct but there was no bleeding, no pains or anything. I'm really hurt behind this. All that was said is that MAYBE there was a clotting disorder. Would something like that show up on an ultrasound? I'm not sure but this sucks!!!

Carolinagirl- I know exactly how you are feeling. I'm 27 and will be 28 in July. It was my first pregnancy and now I'm afraid that it won't happen for me again. I really do pray that everything goes perfectly for you all.

I'm so sorry for your loss. That happened to me with my last pregnancy at 15 weeks. I did tons of testing and never got an answer as to why it happened. I'm praying everyday that this pregnancy makes it!

I'm so sorry. I lost my last baby at 17 weeks. 2nd trimester losses are so hard to deal with. Because it is your first loss your doctors probably won't want to do any testing. Mine told me it was probably a chromosonal defect in the baby and left it at that, but after a lot of research I found out that chromosonal problems in the 2nd trimester are really rare. If I were you I would insist on having your thyroid levels tested and also be tested for clotting disorders. I was hypothyroid and that's what most likely caused my miscarriage. Now I'm on medication and this pregnancy is going very smoothly.
Please take the time you need to grieve for this baby. Some people are not supportive of grieving for pregnancy losses but you lost a child and need to come to terms with that, in your own time. If you want to talk or have any questions please PM me and if you haven't already it's a good idea to name your baby. Our daughter's name was Daisy Grace.

(((Hugs))) and prayers to you and DH. I am so sorry about your loss.
They should definitely run tests on the baby and on you and your husband as well. Second or third term losses can sometimes be attributed to clotting disorders (APA) and other genetic issues related to clotting factors that can be prevented with the use of injectable blood thinners and baby aspirin. If they can find nothing wrong with the baby, then it would be worth it to run those blood tests on you and DH and find out if you have one of several disorders that have been identified in the past 15 years. My impression is that there are a surprisingly high number of cysters with clotting issues as compared to the general population.
Take care of yourself and take time to grieve this loss.

Im so very sorry for your loss. I am thinking and praying for you and your family. Im not sure this helps much but I had a patient who also lost her baby at 20 weeks due to placenta previa.. and theres nothing "right" to say to someone who has just went through a tragedy like that. So I told her I was sorry, hugged her and told her she can talk to me anytime and I would be there to listen. She just smiled and cried and said "my baby was just so perfect that God wanted him back" ... and those words have stuck in my head since then. Take care of yourself and dont lose Faith..you WILL get your miracle!!! ----lots of hugs---

Thanks Amy... I guess I will look into get my thyroid levels checked. This is just very hard for me. When I saw my little boy, I was like he looks so perfect. I couldn't even see that there was anything wrong physically with my baby. I guess we all want answers and want them right away.
Ladies I really do appreciate all of the encouragement and advice. It is really helping me to feel better through this. All I want is another chance at getting pregnant. I really thought this was my miracle because I had tried and prayed for so long.
