Unhappy Miscarriage advice please

Ladies,

I believe I am miscarrying for the 2nd time. I had a missed miscarriage at 11.5 wks last year after 4 years ttc. It took me another year until 5 days ago I got a BFP (at I think 14 dpo). At the time for the following 2 days I had extreme tiredness and nausea and very sore boobs and I kept testing and saw my pregnancy test lines getting bolder and bolder.

Well over the last two days those symptoms have all but gone - slightly saw boobs is all I have left. I just don't feel pregnant anymore. Did an HPT today and the line is no darker than 2 days previous (maybe even lighter). The only conclusion I can draw from this is the worst - that I am about to miscarry.

So this is where I need advice. Can anyone tell me how long it will take me to bleed? Last time round it took 5 weeks before I even started spotting but I am praying that this time it will happen much quickly as it is much earlier (I am 4.4 - 4.5 days today I think). Is this what they call a "chemical" pregnancy and if so does this mean I will not need a scan. (I really can't face travelling 30 miles to pay for a scan and be told there is nothing there).

Thanks for all the advice. I am gutted and feeling very bitter about everything today but to be honest I feel as though I have gotten used to disappointment after disappointment throughout my years ttc.

Sam

I am so sorry for your loss last year and your loss of hope at this moment! There is no reason to think the worst yet, though intuition can be very strong. I hope you can get a beta hcg a couple of times so that you can see your hormones rising. I wish you the best!!

Sam,
Don't give up hope, PG symtoms can come and go, if they subside, it is not a definite sign of m/c.

Can you call you doc and ask him to order some hCG (beta) levels? Much cheaper than a scan. Ask if he can check your progesterone levels too. Hopefully, you can go to a lab near you so you won't have to drive so far. See if he will order 2-3 levels each about 3 days apart so you can see if they are rising. HCG should double every 72 hours, and progesterone should rise, or at least stay the same. If your hCG levels are rising, but your progesterone levels come back a bit low, or if they are dropping, you can always take supplemental progesterone to try to prevent m/c

When you get those results back, you will be able to know for sure if this PG is still viable or not.

My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Default Sheri/Cara

Thanks so much for responding. It helps.

I am actually already on Clexane and Progesterone to support the pregnancy. I was planning on stopping the progesterone because the last thing I want to do is delay any bleeding and in any case I don't think I need it (doctor said just take it if I want for reassurance).

I am from the UK and they don't really do betas here (unless your with a private clinic and having infertility treatment). So I think I would just be told to wait. But I think like you said Sheri intuition is a big thing and I really do think it is over. I know symptoms can come and go but my (I would have said quite strong symptoms for only 4 wks) have been gone now totally for over 2 days. Just sore boobs left. I have not heard of anyone who has had strong symptoms at 4 wks, lose them, but still be pregnant.

I am actually going away for the weekend tomorrow (pre-planned). Would love to drown my sorrows but that 1% of doubt in my mind makes that difficult.

I'm going so crazy that I have done 5 pregnancy tests today alone. And they have told me nothing more.

Sam

Sam - I'm sorry you're going through this.

The first time I noticed that my symptoms were gone, I freaked out. I was scared to death of another miscarriage. I called my doctor and she assured me that for most women, the symptoms come in waves and can take breaks for days or even weeks at a time.

My symptoms were REALLY strong in the beginning, then I got about a 2 week break, then they came back with a vengeance!

I personally don't think that you have anything to worry about, but it certainly would not hurt to take it easy and rest.

*HUGS* Good luck!

Glad that you are on progesterone.

Please, just don't stop the progesterone unless you get a clear BFN PG test, because if you stop the progesterone, while the pregnancy is still viable, stopping the progesterone might actually lead to m/c (if you have CL failure).

I have also heard that sometimes those PG tests can vary in how dark the line is, even 2 tests that are the same brand, might be a bit different in how dark they are. PG tests can only tell you if there is hCG present, but not how much hCG is present.

Even if your intuition is correct, and the PG has already stopped, you probably only have to wait a week or so for the hCG to leave your system, and result in a BFN. Surely an extra week or so on progesterone is not too much of a delay if the PG has stopped, but would be totally worth the wait if the PG is still viable.

Hoping and praying for the best.

Wow Bekki - a 2 week break without symptoms? Truly? That really has given me some hope.

Right so I will stay on the progesterone for a while longer. Like you say it can't hurt whatever.

Sam - Believe me when I say I know exactly what you're going through. You really want everything to be OK, but you are afraid to hope for too much.

I've never really heard of loss of PG symptoms to ever be an indication that something is wrong. In fact, many women still have their symptoms after a m/c or missed m/c.

It's really bleeding or cramping that you should worry about.

Oh, and P.S. Some spotting is actually very normal, esp. in early pregnancy. Sucks, huh? You wanna know how many times I had an absolute meltdown over it? It wasn't pretty. If it's bright red blood that doesn't go away after a few hours, that's when it could be a problem. Cramps are always a problem (but try not to get m/c cramps and constipation cramps mixed up).

Isn't it cruel how many false alarms we get?

I don't know if you've checked them out yet, but there's an awesome thread on the Pregnancy board called Pregnancy After a Loss. They're a wonderful bunch of ladies who are in your exact position - dealing with the joys and fears of pregnancy after a miscarriage. They saved my sanity more than a few times.

*HUGS* Good luck to you!

Sam,
Don't stop the progesterone!!!! Call your Dr. and see if you can get a beta done. That is the only true way to tell if you are miscarrying or not. The dark or light lines means nothing. A line is a line is a line no matter what the shade is.

I am so sorry for your loss last year. It is amazing how our minds can go to the worst place. Try to stay positive!!!!! We are all hoping for the best!

Thanks so much for your sensible advice ladies.

I have continued on the meds and am booked in for a scan on Friday so hopefully we find out the situation then.

Default Good news

Thanks for remembering me. The support on these boards is amazing.

I got good news. I have one little embryos on board and we saw a heartbeat too. I am 5.6 weeks today. So all my panicking was for nothing (don't suppose it will be the end of it though). So at last I have something to feel optimistic about.

Thanks again.
