Default Miscarriage Question please help!

Hiya!

Been a member and lurking on the boards for far too long. But thought i'd post a question as I really do need some advice.

Was diagnosed as having pcod in 2001. Like many other woman I've not had much success with the medical profession, but that's a different thread. I'll move on to my question but i'll explain my situation a wee bit first..

I recently had a late miscarriage at 22 weeks in February this year after conceiving naturally. It was my first pregnancy and our little girl didn't survive, and we're struggling to come to terms with the pain and heartache (but we are getting there).

What I want to know is if anyone out there who has suffered a miscarriage was offered any tests by their doctors as to why it happened. If so what tests? Any other advice would be appreciated. thanks in advance.

I should add the reason i'm posting here and not the miscarriage board is that it seems to have a somewhat American perpective, and living in Scotland I want a UK NHS point of view on tests.

Pixsy.......firstly so sorry for your loss

My RE refused to do any tests until I had had three losses, however the furthest i have had a pregnancy progress is 16 weeks so I don`t know if that changes things.

I know how difficult it can be to get testing on the NHS....they always seem so reluctant taking the trial & error approach alot of the time.

I have however found that with alot of insistence & determination you can get them to act. Its really up to you......if you want answers I would make sure they do some testing.

They can do fetal screening & parent karyotype to eliminate any genetic reasons for the m/c. They can also do blood screening on you to look for possible clotting problems.

I`m sure other people will have other ideas for you.......good luck with whatever you decide........Claire

Hiya Pixsy - So sorry to hear of your sad loss.

I too have had miscarriages (two in fact) - and the Dr would not undertake any tests - but did keep reassuring me that things would work out in the end. He also advised me that they normally don't do any testing until three miscarriages.

The good news is that I now have to very healthy, beautiful children, carried full term, with no complications or problems during pregnancy so try not to worry too much.

Good luck for the future
