Default Miscarriages due to low oestrogen - anybody else?

I've just been diagnosed with PCOS and insulin resistance. I've been put on 500mg of metformin twice a day and have to change my diet (which is a nightmare as I'm very slim and lost half a stone in the first 2 weeks of the diet!!!).

I have no trouble conceiving (I managed it 3 times in 8 months but miscarried at 5 weeks on each) This does happen with PCOS apparently. I was told that due to my insulin resistance my ovaries are producing basically no oestrogen. I'm rubbing Oestrogen gel into my legs twice a day at the moment! I've been told that once I get my insulin under control my ovaries should start working again and I will be able to go through the 9 months without miscarrying.

Anybody else had this?

Hi,

well this is very interesting. I assume the insuline resistance was diagnosed based on the oral glucose tolerance test + insulin? Also how many different results of E2 do you have? What were the values? Please include the CD of the test.
Was PCOS diagnosed by ultrasound? Are you treated by RE?

What day of your cycle do you ovulate? It is very unusual that you can spontaneously ovulate with a low estradiol level. Estradiol is produced mainly by the growing dominant follicle. When the levels sustain a level of 200 for 50 hours, it is a signal for gonadotropin release and LH triggers ovulation.

I do not want to question the approach of your doctor but this does sound very strange. Hence I want to be sure you had all the blood work mentioned done.

HI Barbara!

I'll need to grab the paperwork from hom tonight and post for you tomorrow. It does sound strange doesn't it?

Off the top of my head I can tell you that I had a blood test after a fast of 9 hours then a drank a glass of glocuse and it showed that the blood suger (or is it insulin!) rose by x 6 instead of the normal x 3.

I'll post all blood results for you tomorrow. The speicialist I;ve seen is a gyne who now specialises in hormones.

I've been treated for endo since I was a teenaget and she only spotted the cysts on my ovaries last month!
