Today I found out that I miscarried one of my twins at 12 weeks. I haven't really processed the news yet - there are so many emotions I'm feeling right now.
Anyway, has anyone had this happen? What are the risks for the rest of the pregnancy?
I've been told that things will take care of themselves through absorption, but is there anything I should / shouldn't be doing?
TIA.

While I have no experience in the loss of a twin, I did want to offer you a heartfelt hug and a squeeze To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. . I can only imagine the ache in your heart right now.
I'm 6w2d today and I started spotting on Friday - bleeding today. I'm praying with everything in me that it sticks. We find out at our first u/s tomorrow.
Adding you and your little one to my prayer list ...

As for the absorption, I've always read that it does take care of itself. Sometimes there is a little bleeding, but most of the time nothing. I would say just carry on like the pregnant lady you are & you should be fine. I hope the rest of your pg is h&h!

I was on bedrest for about 6 or 8 weeks during the bleeding (I'd had 2 previous m/c so my RE didn't want to take any chances).
I am so sorry for your loss. The loss of my DD's twin is still very haunting. Take it easy and many prayers for a healthy baby!

Sorry Im just trying to understand because I believe from what I've read absorption will be what happens ... sometimes slight bleeding ...

My Mood: Points: 11,304.43 Bank: 639,198.18 Total Points: 650,502.61 | We lost one of our twins at 13 wks. The one we lost always measured smaller and kind of continued to "fall off the growth" as time went on- we did IUI and meds, so we had LOTS of u/s early on. At 11 wks we knew it was a very good possibility that we would lose one, so we chose to wait two weeks and let nature play out.
It is true that the remaining twin produces enough good hormones that you won't miscarry the other. I actually had an appt with the perinatologist just to make sure nothing else was wrong- that was around 18 weeks and by that time, my body had already "walled off" the twin who passed and my doctor told me that it will just get pushed into the placenta and be delivered at delivery as part of the placenta.
He did tell me that since I was fairly far along in terms of when most lose a baby that to a trained individual you would be able to tell a difference in the placenta at delivery and definately under a microscope it would be evident.
I never had any bleeding or spotting, but that is also normal. In my second trimester I did have some cramping and he told me that was b/c the uterus knew that something wasn't quite right and that was causing the pain/ contrax. Nothing serious and I am still working 40 hours a week on my feet To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
It is one of the most emotionally haunting things that I have ever been through b/c you are so sad that you lost a baby but then people think you aren't as sad b/c you still have the "good" baby. My doctor told me to ignore all those people and grieve your loss- that was the best advice I got. I will tell you that by about 16-17 wks I was able to start being happy about my pregnancy, but I didn't get really excited until about 22/23 weeks. That is normal.
You are welcome to email me any time, I know how hard it is... It brings tears to my eyes just typing this. It will get easier with time.

From what I've read, and what I've inquired from my doctors, your body should absorb, not problem. Your other little babe should be fine.
Did you have any indication that this could happen, or was this sudden? Again, I'm very sorry for your loss.

We lost DD's twin at 8 weeks. I had a pretty heavy episode of bleeding the day after our first u/s where we saw two hb's -that's how I knew something was wrong. I bled heavily one night and again the next morning, then had spotting that tapered off and became more brown in color. The baby was absorbed by my body, but the sac stayed and was delivered when I delivered DD's placenta. I didn't have any other problems with the pregnancy, other than havin to be induced at 39 weeks b/c of my blood pressure.
The RE didn't have me go on bedrest or anything, but DH insisted I take it easy for several days afterward.

Points: 18,813.81 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 18,813.81 | Hi Ladies,
My eyes are welling up with tears just reading all of your supportive posts. I thought I was being brave, but when I saw your responses, I lost it.
Both babies were growing well, and were equal in size. I did have a blood clot that was detected, but was told that it was fairly normal in early pregnancy, and especially because I had twins. The doctors can't be sure, but say that it could have something to do with it.
Heartbeats were great, but when I went in for my twelve week ultrasound, one of the babies was no longer.:-( It must have just happened, because he/she was just about 12 weeks in size.
Right now, I'm trying to be strong - we have a toddler at home who is my ray of sunshine everyday.
Mostly, I feel guilt. I had a hard time accepting I was having twins in the first place - and in a weird way, I feel like I "willed" this to happen. Of course, that's ridiculous - but how can I not feel that way?
I'm glad to hear that things will absorb. I'm told that the first week after miscarriage is the biggest risk period for the other baby, and then 3 weeks after that it begins to decline. By 16-17 weeks, I should be "normal" again. So, I'm anxiously awaiting that day -- I'm so worried about the other baby.
I can't thank you enough for all the support - it means the world.
xoxo
