Question Miscarrying #1, question about TTC (sorry kind of long)

Hello everyone. I found out last week that my baby didn't make it past 5 weeks, 6 days. I had an ultrasound at what was supposed to be 8 weeks, 1 day and that's when we found out. I had my HcG levels drawn on Thursday evening (31,300) and then again on Saturday (30,300). I know that my beta levels dropping is not a good sign. My progestrone levels have been good both times they checked it, both over 25. I am just waiting to hear from the doctor tomorrow, but I have prepared myself for the worst. I know that things happen for a reason and I have learned a lot from this pregnancy, although it was very short. I think DH and I are opting for a D&C as I do not want to wait out trying to miscarry on my own, I am showing no signs of a miscarriage, no cramping or discharge.

My question is, DH and I would like to start trying again ASAP. I am going to make an appointment with an OB this time. I have read that after having the procedure done it it sometimes easier to get pregnant the second time. Any thoughts on this? How long do the recommend waiting to try again? My cycles were like clock work before I got pregnant on 100 MG Clomid. I am hoping with the help of an OB we can have a successful pregnancy the second time.

I'm so sorry about your loss. I had something similar in May. I chose to miscarry by myself and that worked out for me.
I think you should talk to your doc about starting again. Most doctors will say to wait 3 months but I don't think it's necessary. Talk to your doc to find out what is best for you.

Hi there. I am sorry for your loss.

I had a miscarriage at 10 weeks and had a D&C, rather than wait for it to happen naturally. It wasn't as bad as I thought - the worst part was the mental anguish I went through in pre-op. When I woke up, I was relieved knowing it was over. I've also had 2 early natural miscarriages - but they were SO early, it was more like an extra-heavy period. You have to do what you think is best .

Most doctors say 3 months, but I think that's more for THEIR convenience than anyone else's. They want to know how to "date" a pregnancy should you get pregnant right away. (And hopefully you would!) As long as you are tracking when you ovulate, you can date a pregnancy using that information.

Once again, sorry for your loss. The ladies on this board are very supportive. Lean on us for help.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. I agree with saluki_fan - there's no medical reason to wait. I actually asked my OB about this while I was in pre-op to get my D&C and she said there's no reason to wait. I would caution, that while you might be physically ready sooner, being emotionally ready is a whole different story! Make sure you take the time to mourn.

Default there is an actual reason to wait

I had a D & C in mid-November (no heartbeat at 12 weeks).

The reason for the wait is for your uterus's lining to get nice and fluffy again. The doctors worry about future implantation (if you were to get prego) because when they do the D & C they scrape more of the lining away than would occur naturally with miscarriage or a period. (That is the reason from my Best Friend who is a Nurse Practioner for OB/GYN)
She also said that the above is all in theory- and she has never seen someone lose a baby because they got prego too quickly after D & C. But in theory it *could* happen.

My Doctor kept saying "by the book" to wait 3 months. For everything to get back to normal. He said he also advised his wife the same thing when she had one. BUT then went on to tell me that we did not need to use any birth control in the mean time - He said just don't TRY to get prego (don't be timing sex for babies).....

I had a girlfriend misscarry a baby early on and she was *allowed* to get prego right away and did the next month-

K

Hi, I am very sorry for your loss. I had a d&c also, no heartbeat at 11 weeks. went fine. My OB told me to wait 3 months & my RE told me 1 month. I ultimately decided to wait 3 months b/c of emotional reasons. Its almost been 3 months & I am just now able / comfortable to look at baby stuff & walk into baby stores. You're in my thoughts & prayers.

2 of my miscarriages were incomplete (can't think of another term to call it). both times i took a drug/pill that i put in my vagina and it caused the miscarriage to finish. i can't remember the name it though..started with a m (not much help i know). i had a D&C also and i wouldn't choose it again. i think i have some kind of sensitivity to the anesthesia and it made me feel like i had the flu afterwards. i didn't want to think of that pregnancy as making me fee like i had the flu but that's what comes to mind when i think of it (it's been 8 years), so it's definitely something i would never choose again.

Soaper Woman, if it is Cytotec the generic name is Misoprostol
It could also have been Mifegyne

newby- I am sorry to hear of your loss... My doctor advised me to wait 2 months.. I may havebeen physically ready after two months, but emotionally I was not. I went into what I call the replacement phase of my m/c. I thought being pregnant again would take away the pain. My fiance and I conceived approximately a year and a half after my m/c and I still was an emotional wreck, and worried myself sick. I believe you should start trying when YOU feel ready. Your body will let you get pregnant when it's ready to.
Good luck.. and my thoughts are with you.

The waiting part is not only good emotionaly, but a good friend of mine went thru a miscarriage and D&C and conceived the second month after, but because her lining hadn't filled out enough the baby implanted too low in her uterus and she ended up with Placenta Previa. They had to take to baby early (I think at about 32 weeks) and because of how they had to cut her uterus she can no longer carry (wasn't a problem for her as she had three others and this was going to be her last anyway).

This isn't what will happen to you necessarily, but I think it is good to give your body and mind some time before trying again. Sometimes the Dr. advice is good advice...sometimes.
