Monita my story

I read Monita's post. So sorry to read that. It floods me with memories of a simular situation. Although I figure that most of us girls has had their very own stories as well with insenitive people. I know people are curious and sometimes dont know how to handel their own curiosity or atleast I think thats the case.

I thought sharing one of my stories with you in some way may comfort you in the fact that it had happened to me.

Right before I was dignosed 4 years ago I decided that i would go to get my hair done. I dont know why I thought this because at that point I didnt know why I had dark skin around my neck or why my hair was falling out by the hands full. I have always been so embarrassed by the discoloration that I would never go to do anything to my hair. As my lovely mother would put it I was not bathing good enough to have such a dirty neck. But thats another story. Anyways I went and and sat down in the chair. The lady asked what did I want done. I said that I have had the same hair style since I was 12 years old and just up date it for me. Before I knew it she had me over to the sink to shampoo my hair. She started to wash it and immediatly the look changed on her face. I knew the fun was over. She said nothing but kept looking at my neck even when she talked to me. I being the person I am just looked down of embarassment and said nothing. The after shampooing she took me to the chair and said to excuse her for a second. She walked over to a few other girls that worked there and started to whisper and giggle. Looking over at me with quick glances. I was so devestated I got up and left. I cried for days and have neveer went back to get my hair done at a salon.

I know what the discoloration is now but that changes little because most people doesnt care why you have it, just that you do.

I Am So Sorry That You Had To Go Thru That People Can Be So Mean Sometimes. They Don't Realize That Will Stick With Somebody Forever. What Doesn't Kill Us Will Only Make Us Stronger!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Baby Cheeks that’s is terrible people and I find especially girls can be cruel, I think that they find it funny to gossip about other people because of their own insecurities. And annettediaz is right what doesn’t kill us makes us stronger.

Hi Jenn

Just read today your story. I am so sorry that this happened to you and I certainly can understand how you felt.

it is true it discourages you to go to the salon when you know what they are going to say. For me, it takes some preparation time before going to my appointment, knowing that they are going to say : you are loosing your hair !! but last time it was the cherry on top of the ice cream when they started talking about babies !!

I just hope there was more information about our condition, but also, more sensitive people who in any circumstances, will never dare to make fun of others, no matter what the problem is.

They may had fun with your problem but for sure these girls have other problems which everyone would make fun of, it is just that they are concealed. Maybe they have foot odor problems. Maybe they have strechmarks or bad breath. You never know, so never let anyone make you feel bad, because everybody has at least one unpleasant issue about themselves, PCOS or not.

I'm so sorry here's one of my stories and this has to be one of the worst things that I remember and still think how terrible it is

before I was diagnosed with this ridiculous pcos I had the same problem with dark skin around my neck real bad no matter what I did it would not go away so what happens

MY MOTHERS HUSBAND starts yelling at my mother about look how DIRTY she is she doesn't clean her neck tells me get over here and I'll clean it. I tell my mother I clean my neck he grabs me and a wash cloth full of soap and starts scrubbing my neck starts yelling that the dirt would not come off and grabs a can of SPIC AND SPAN house cleaning chemicals and starts scrubbing my neck until I start crying and my skin was peeling off my mother was yelling at him to leave me alone it took for him to rub my neck raw before he would stop.

Well I have not had my period in some time since September of 2006. I'm afraid to go to the doctor because I always think about the worse case scenario. Well what do you think is wrong with me? I thought it was Endometreosis or a Hormone Defiency

I would definitively suggest you go to a doctor, but choose a good, recommended one, which specializes in infertility. I understand your fear of going to a doctor as I had the same problem. I only had like 3 periods in a year and I never went to a doctor as I was very comfortable with this and also because I was afraid to receive bad news.

The only way to know for sure what is your problem is to visit a doctor. He will make some tests to check for hormones, a scan to check your ovaries to see if you have cysts, etc. Then you will know exactly what is causing that you miss your period.

Do not let more time pass without checking yourself. I waited too long to get diagnosed and now I want to have babies and I have to make fertility treatments. It is very important you take care of your health.

I do understand that!!! My Mother for years ,and still questions me to this day about it, said I was the most dirtiest person on earth. She use to hold me down and scrub till I would bleed. Her excuse was that it would not come off because I hadnt washed it in so long that it was "embedded" in my skin. We have fought for years over this. I have cried for years over this. She tried everything from lye soap to comitt and sos pads. Three years ago me and my husband was moving into a new place he was gone to get another load os stuff and I was there cleaning with my cousin and my mom was there. She held me down and started trying to scrub me with the dirty ammonia water I had been cleaning the floor with!!! My cousin yelled at her to stop it, I told her if she ever tried that again I would hit her. Girl I ment it too. I thought I was the only one who had a cruel family. I am so sorry you had to do that. Thank you PCOS for making yet another issue terrible.

Hang in there girl together we can take on the morons of the world.

I am so sorry that this happened to you. It always infuriates me to hear about good people being mistreated. I understand the curiosity some people may have about outward signs of whatever illness, but I would expect grown adults to either keep their curiosity to themselves or ask... politely. You never know what is really going with someone or how badly you could hurt them by making snide remarks or pulling some high school s**t like that.

You and Monita certainly handled it better than I would have. I'm already ticked off about having PCOS, so I'm just waiting for someone to say something stupid so I can end up in the evening news!

PCOS really stinks! But I think that rude people stink even more!!!

Hug people can be sooo cruel and there is no excuse for it they just dont think and that is selfish. I was told that having a pain relief machine on my stomach would help like a Tens thing so i did but of course to all the other 14 year olds i was weird and it was soo embarresiing in pe i used to get all tangled up and my mate had to hold the machine outside the changing cubicle, and a teacher came in and went guessing thats jess i was like oh yea im known as the machine person i stopped wearin it to school and coped with the pain
