Default More estrogen = more emotional?

Ok, so I've been wondering.. the doc says my testosterone is very high, and of course suggested BCPs to normalize this, but since I've had high testosterone for probably many many years and have never been known to be super emotional except during PMS, does this mean that by being put on BCPs I may become more irrational and moody/emotional, at least til my body gets used to them?

You could, everyone is diffrent. However, higher estrogen BCPs are more likely to cause moodiness. Some women do perfectly fine on their first try and others have to try multiple pills to find their match. If you are worried about moodiness try a low estrogen pill first. I am on Yaz and loving it!.

I'm concerned about this also! I've never been a super emotional girl and I'm looking to find a bc that will not make me crazy. Before I was diagnosed with PCOS I tried the Ortho Evra patch and could only stand 3 months of it. How often do you get your period? I only get mine 1 or 2 times a year.

I get mine every 28 days.. with a very heavy flow and awful cramping/back spasms.. Never been super emotional, I'm on day 2 now and no bad effects.. Gonna give it a few cycles to let levels even out and see how it all goes!

BC will make you more emotional along with other symptoms. It's best to discuss your concerns with you doctor.

It has been my experience, that women who are on the bcp, tend to be LESS emotional and have FEWER PMS symptoms than women who are not. The bcp keeps your homones on a more even keel and keep them from fluctuating so drastically--aka, mood swings go bye-bye. BCPs are often given to women with severe PMS symptoms to reduce them. Also, the high testosterone would make you MORE emotional now than if it were lower.

Good luck!

I had this problem when I was on BC. I tried Nuva Ring and for me, it resulted in weight gain and being super emotional. I'm wondering if something like Yaz is better? Does Yaz have less estrogen than Nuva Ring?

oh my,

I had terrible experience with BCPs ,I was on 3 different one for 3 months and eventually I had to stop taking it since I had a horrible reaction to the last one DIANE35,which is known to have higher estrogen level.
while I was on yaz (1st) nothing major happened emotionally but my stomach was so sick that my doc changed it to Alesse which gave me horrible headaches and Iwas constantly crying for no reason plus my acne got worse.my last option according to my derm was Diane and I wish I hadn't taken it.it messed uo my system soooo bad that I stayed home for a whole month after stopping the stupid pill.
I'm doing better now but moodiness and depression which I never had before are still a huge problem for me.
I'm hoping with all these organic food and diet I would get my hormones back to normal.
but anyway everyone is different I guess I'm too sensitive I have friends that are on pills for 10 years with no side effect.

This is interesting...

I found that only Yasmin stopped me from being an emotional wreck before my week off/period. I would have a sudden moody moment the night before the bleeding began but that was it.

Desogen/Marvelon made me crazy the whole 3rd week and the break wasnt much better, but I did quite like that pill.

Diane 35/Dianette made me suicidal...

Now I am Ortho-Cyclen, which is higher than Desogen and Yasmin (35mg instead of 30), but feel absolutely fine so far.

I would like to point out that some of us are actually more sensitive to the progestogen effects, which include moods and depression. I think I am one of those perhaps. I tried Cerazette (desogestrel 75mg mini pill) and felt awfully moody and rubbish, yet when there's oestrogen added (Desogen), I can cope!

It takes a while to find a pill that suits you best, but I would rather put up with a few side effects than let my body run riot! lol!
