Default More frustrated after seeing test results...

I recently had an appointment with a great endocrinologist that did extensive blood work for my thyroid and to rule out Cushing’s. I got a copy of my b/w report in the mail today, and I’m more confused than ever.

When I first suspected a thyroid problem, I went to a GP who did some blood work and my TSH in October was 3.74. Now on the report I had done from March 1st says my TSH is 1.79. HOW CAN THAT BE??? I honestly don’t think this is right. I am NOT on any thyroid meds. Just Metformin 2000mg, 81mg aspirin, and prenatal vitamins. And this report says my testosterone jumped from 22 in October to 44 in March. I’m so confused on how these things can happen. How could my TSH drop by half and my testosterone DOUBLE in that short amount of time?

The only thing I can think of is that I haven’t been really faithful about taking my Metformin, and I think about two weeks went by with me not taking it because I had the flu really bad and couldn’t keep it down. Do you think that the Metformin has any kind of effect on thyroid? I just don’t understand it.

I'm pretty sure Metformin doesn't have anything to do with the thyroid. That's just really strange that your testosterone has gone up. Metformin is supposed to make testosterone go down.
On another note you can be hypothyroid when your TSH is in the normal range. Did they test your T4 or T3?

They tested T4, it was 0.9 . I don't see on the report anything about T3...the TSH was labeled TSH, 3rd generation, 1.79.

I was actually OFF the Met for about 2 weeks, maybe a little longer before having this b/w done, because I was ill with the flu, so I can see where the testosterone level would have gone up. But I didn't think Met could have an effect on TSH. I don't know.
