Unhappy More tired how can this be!

I have a goiter so my Dr gave Levoxyl 0.05mg (50mcg) I also started 1000 mg metformin er. And I'm constantly tired I fall asleep all the time. I'm so upset because I thought I would feel better finally. I take the levoxyl a 1/2 hour before I eat just like it says. I've been on it for a week and a half. Any ideas on why this would be.

I have the same problem and I take both Metformin and Synthroid. I was on Levoxyl and I was having headaches on a daily basis. My Dr switched me to Synthroid, no headaches but I feel no better than I did before I started the meds.

If you have only been on the meds for about a week and a half, you might need to give them more time. Thyroid replacement meds take a while to get into your system. My doctor told me it would take about a month before I noticed a difference, and he was right. Good Luck!

It could just be your body reacting to the meds. And, tiredness can be a met side effect, so maybe it's affecting you more than the thyroid hrmone.

It will take about 6 weeks until you can really tell if the Levoxyl is working or not...a week and a half just isn't enough time. It's been a while since you posted so hopefully you are feeling a bit better by now. Update?

Thanks for the replies.
I think it's the Metformin because it seems like I get tired every few hours it has something to do with me not eating. I'm trying to eat more but I still feel low blood sugary. So I think i'm not seeing any effects from the levoxyl because of the Met. I have an appointment with the nurse next week so maybe she can help.

Have you thought about keeping snacks handy throughout the day? If it's the Met affecting your blood sugar then having some snacks accassionaly should help.

Try taking a B-Complex vitamin each day. Metformin can block the absorption of b-vitamins.

You might also want to do some research on Armour - natural thyroid replacement. Some people just don't respond to synthetic.

I second the suggestion of a B-complex. It made a big difference in my energy after starting Metformin b/c Met can block the absorbtion of B vitamins.

Unhappy

I AM SOOOO TIRED! I am just feeling awful again . . . . . just when I finally started to feel better and started getting small bursts of energy(but NOT until the late afternoon!)! I wonder what is wrong with me. Has my Hashi's got my TSH elevated again(my appt. is in June to test again)?? Is it the Met depleting my body of Vitamin B?(I do take prenatals - shouldn't that be enough Vit B??) Is it because I had constant HORRIBLE diarrhea for 1.5 weeks that has made me so weak??? Could I have an estrogen dominance problem???? What could I take to better balance my hormones??? Is it AF trying to show up since I am already about 4 days late- she always makes tired!???? No I am NOT pregnant according to about 6 HPTs this cycle & last cycle I continued to test throughout because my last cycle was almost nonexistent so I thought maybe . . . . . I couldn't be one of those women who takes an HPT that is negative & then actually be pregnant that is just so rare, HPTs are pretty darn accurate so NO I'm not pregnant & wondering why the heck do I STAY in a constant state of fatigue?? DR promised that I would get more energy once I got my TSH levels on track - but DANG IT he lied!!!!! My whole thyroid profile looked great and was all within the normal range in FEB, but I still wasn't feeling so hot then, I just seem to be getting more & more tired no mater how much yummy Starbucks I drink! WHYYYYYYYYY!!! I feel like I'm walking in quick sand.

Southern, I've read that, contrary to popular belief, you can get tired if you take too much thyroid medicine, too. Is it possible you're taking too much? If not, is it possible you're not really sleeping at night? Can you ask your husband if he's noticed you thrashing around or anything? You can try buying and taking Melatonin (in vitamin section) to help you sleep deeper. Are you eating a lot of carbs? My IR makes me exhausted about 30 minutes after I eat a lot of carbs.

I still get tired a lot in the afternoons (more than the average person, I think), but my tiredness has improved SO much since I started the thyroid meds and started taking B vitamins (I did them both at the same time, so no idea which was the cause).

~~~saiph, I don't think I'm taking too much thyroid meds, I don't think - but who knows?? I have sleep apnea & used to sleep horribly, but I have lost weight & sleep much better now, its funny that you asked that because I just asked DH a couple weeks ago if he's seen me stop breathing or anything like that recently since he was the first to tell me how I snore & stop breathing sometimes. I remember years ago when we were in college how he swore I snored & I was always in denial until . . . he recored me & played it back!LOL I was in shock, I sounded like a bear!! He said I have been sleeping great and I guess he would know since we spoon most of the night. I stay away from a lot of carbs, I've even been cutting out bread for the most part(I eat only whole grains anyway). THANKS for your input, I really appreciate it. I am TTC & wonder if I should add more vitamin B to my daily meds. I wonder if the B in my Prenatals is enough? Should I add an entirely separate Vit B complex to my daily Vit.'s? What do you think?
