Default Morning Met = Weight Loss??

So I have been reading allot of threads, both old and new. I take 1500 mg of Met ER at bedtime. Every evening I am hungry. I eat too much.

It seems in reading some of the threads I noticed that folks who take their Met during the day or in the morning are having better luck with their appetite and weight loss.

Anyone else notice this trend? Maybe switching up when you take them will give you better luck with appetite control when you need it.

If you take yours during the day and can share your experience that would be great!!

The first time I took Metformin, I took 2250mg (750mg x 3) all at night. I had more side effects and didn't notice any help with appetite or cravings. I am now taking it again (1500mg) and I space them out three times a day. I definitely notice more effect on appetite BUT I am terrible at remembering to take all 3! I hate that! I really need to do better and have wondered if I should go back to taking them all at night. Will it do the same "ovary wise" if you take them all at once? It has yet to induce AF. If you are good at remembering to take your meds with your meals, I would try it--I think you'll tell a difference. Good luck!

I have the same exact question! I have been taking Met ER 1500 for about three months now. I have lost inches, but not a lot of weight. And I've noticed lately that my cravings for sugar/carbs are getting stronger again. I take mine all at night but am seriously pondering switching to one in the morning, one at night. I've tried a few times to begin this way but always get the dreaded burbly guts. Yuck! But if more folks are having success this way I would love to hear it. I'm thinking I need to bite the bullet and just split the dose up.

I would love to hear from some of the ladies who've had success and take ER...do you split your dose up? Also, is 1500 enough, or should I push for 2000?

Great question, by the way MammyJax

I take 1000 mg with breakfast and 500 mg with supper and that seems to work very well to control my appetite and keep me from having hypos. Given what Met is meant to do, I belive it's better to take it when you body is likely to need it.

The only reason I don't split the dose between three meals is that I never know when or if I'll have lunch when I'm at work.

My doctor told me I could take it all at once but also said that he didn't think that 'extended release' meant it would last for a full 24 hours. Based on my experience a dose of ER Met seems to last about 12 hours.

I take 2000 mg at bedtime also and have been thinking about spacing it out through the day. I tried that in the past; however my stomach was unable to handle it. Maybe I will try again....................and see what happens

i used to take mine at lunch but i was only taking 500 mg at that time. the dr wants me to take 1500, but i was taking 1000 mg for a long while. i did not see any improvement, although just taking the 500 at luch helped some. i have been thinking of splitting them up too when i get my dosage back up. i stopped last month, and SE have never been an issue, but they r now. i can't take all 1500 mg at once or i will get too low and feel real bad. i am going to play around with it when i get baxk up some.

okay i'm so glad to see this thread, I just signed up w/ this site, i'm brand new. Dx march 09 I just completed my first month, i'm up to 2000 and I take mine at bed time.( I have no side effects if I take it at night) the obgyn told me i'd loose weight. I have gained girls!
I was starting 127 and 1 month later i'm 137ish. I think its because i'm taking it at night, but if I take it during the day i'm was getting the "trots" bad, I work in a Doctors office and its hard to see pts, if i'm running to the bathroom . I'd really like to start taking it during the day, any advice of foods to stay away from, or what I can do to get rid of the symptoms.
All I want is carbs and sugar. I never eat candy & now I cant stop eatting! Help

sc4020 r u taking an extended release ER or just the regular. if you are taking just the regular it will make you gain weight especially if you take it all at once. the dr accidently gave me the reg and i had to ask the pharmacist and she was like, no your on the wrong one(previously i was on ER) when they switched i lost what little i had gained. it was making me want sugar and carbs all the time. it will mess with your blood sugar real bad.

So after posting this Saturday night (2 days ago), I changed my pill timing. Yesterday and today I have been taking 1000 mg in the morning and 500 in the evening. This is just my second day but what a difference taking the Met in the morning does. My appetite is much lower.

I will keep you posted. If anyone else makes a switch and can share your experience, please post here.

My doctor had me switch to the morning because I am on the ER dosage and she said that people take them at night to help with GI distress. I have had no problems with 2000mg in the AM. Of course, I have been on MET for almost 9 years, so I can tolerate it pretty well. I'd check with your doc.

I think it is just the regular, not the ER. WOW I'm so glad you told me that, I thought it was my imagination. SO can I just ask the pharm. for ER. or do I have to get in touch w/ my doctor to get a new year script for the ER kind?
She told me it would make me loose weight, and GI issues, And I have the gi issues randomly but not all the time. thats why I was just confused when I gained weight after she told me I'd loose.

i took my first dose yesterday evening. 500 mg in the middle of a small meal. i felt great, no side effects. then at about 10pm we had a snack and it went right through me. so i'm feeling like i need to take it at night and not eat anymore afterwards, but i want to feel great all day.... so i'd like to take it through out the day, but am afraid of side effects.

I take 1,000mg a day. I take a 500mg pill with breakfast and a 500mg pill with supper. I have noticed that when I eat a lot of carbs, especially pasta, I have to get up numerous times during the night to go to the bathroom. However, I don't have any other side effects as long as I stay away from a lot of pasta.
