Default Much like most of you... FRUSTRATED!!!

I'll attempt not to make this too long and/or wordy~

I was diagnosed with PCOS in July of this year. It really brought an entire lifetime of symptoms that were all treated individually into perspective and lo and behold, I'm not crazy! lol.

Anyhow, an entire slew of tests were done and none of my hormones ranged out of 'normal' so the first doctor I saw refused to do anything besides put me on the pill. I felt like this was of course treating the 'symptoms' and not treating the root of the problem. So, went to another ob/gyn and he said that the proof was in the pudding on my ultrasound that I'm covered in cysts. (duh).

I was put on Provera 10mg for ten days to induce a period since its been nearly a year. Also, on Glucophage 1000mg XR.

My real question is this. I've been on Glucophage for over a month now. Side effects have been tolerable. Been through TWO rounds of ten days of the Provera and NO period. NOTHING.

Part of me is so frustrated with the acne, and lack of periods and I just want to partly say scrap it and see if I can get back on yasmin since I know it worked for my PCOS symptoms. However, if I know that the Glucophage is going to work I can hold out. I'd rather let my hormones restore themselves naturally. I'm just getting frustrated and want to feel normal SO badly. Getting back on the pill I know is the easy way out but waiting 4-6 mo for the Glucophage seems like a lifetime... especially when I don't feel like I'm making any progress.

Meh. Insight please!

I don't see why you couldn't do both the metformin (glucophage) and the bcp...there are many here who are on both. since pcos is a syndrome, and has no "cure," all you can really do is treat the symptoms...frustrating as that can be at times. I believe the purpose of bcp helps to get rid of the cysts you do have and keeps new ones from forming (along with giving you regular periods).

I know it's frustrating, but don't give up on the Met too quickly. It takes time, but if you can get your period without the pill eventually, it'll be worth it. I'd also suggest talking to your doctor to see if you can do both the pill and the Met for awhile.
