Default Multiracial family seeks African-American infant!

Hey cysters! So, my family is at it again. I have read and heard that there are agencies with discounted programs for black infants, because they are not as in demand as white infants. Before anybody gets all flustered, I am a black woman and I just accept that this is the way it is. Most families that are adopting in this country are white and want white babies - I get it.

I am having trouble finding agencies that specialize in this and wondering if anyone has a recommendation. I know there have been some of you on here that have adopted black infants and did not wait very long. If you have had this experience, perhaps you would not mind giving me a ballpark figure of how much you spent? I know babies are priceless, but you still have to come up with the money and that's not easy to do on my budget. We don't want to use the same agency that we used with our son because their worker was LAME.

Any hints? Thanks for your help!

I have been doing a lot of research on adoption, and know that a lot of agencies are looking for african american or families that are bi racial to adopt, there are a large number of african ameriacan women that are requesting that a afrincan american or bi racial family to parent their child. I know that Bethany Christian Services is looking for african american families to adopt. One of the agencies here in michigan has it posted on their website that they are looking for african american families. that is adoption associates Inc. I would give them both a call and see if they cant get you in the right direction.

Acrosaz~ I used an adoption agency called adoption by gentle care. I adopted a full african american baby boy. The agency gave me an application to apply for a grant the grant was for $8,000.00 if you are willing to accept a full african american baby, $3,000.00 for a bi-racial baby, and NOTHING for a caucasion baby. We were told we would not be presented to white families because I am hispanic and DH is african (from Liberia) . All together with placement fees, agency fees, and all of the other fees we paid about $12,000.00. My social worker was very friendly and more than willing to help with anything I needed. We started the process in September 06 and was matched twice (both fellthrough) before we finally got our PERFECT match in March 07. So it took us from start to finish 7 months it could be sooner depending on what there needs are. If you have any further questions please feel free to ask

I haven't adopted but do know of an agency you might want to check out. I am not sure where all they have offices. It's the Buckner Foundation. It's a Christian agency that has (from what I have read) relatively low costs.

HTH~

i was also told as well as had read that African American children are a bit harder to place. My husband and I are both white but requested a bi-racial or African child, our agency did not have any special program for this but they are non profit and get funding from the state per child placed so for us its only about $1700 total (for fos-adopt), i would call agency's and just ask, they are usually pretty open and I have heard of some agency's specifically working to find homes for black children, there are non right where i live but there are some in the bigger cities so i would maybe do a search for one in your city and then to the bigger cities of your state. I hope you find a good place to go. If we adopt again i don't think i want the same social worker i feel like things are really slacking...
I know i probably haven't been to much help but I wish you the best of luck!!!!!!!!
