My mum just got dx with an overactive thyroid today, she got dx with blood tests. Basically, her GP is sending her to see aCconsultant at the local hosp. Does anyone know what will happen?? Will she get to see an Endo? Would be funny if she got to see my own Endo........ As i have no experience with thyroid problems right now i thought Id ask you all. My thyroid is only just about right.
Oh, I feel for your mom! My husband's aunt had an overactive thyroid, also called Grave's Disease. As awful as hypothyroidism is, in some ways hyperthyroid is worse - she was not able to sleep, lost weight, her heart was always racing, terrible anxiety - she felt awful. Diagnosed through an extremely low TSH. She had her thyroid "killed" via radiation which made her hypothyroid, but then she was able to get her TSH levels straightened out through synthroid. She's feeling so much better now.
There is a lot of great information out there on Grave's disease. I wish your mom the best of luck!!
