Mum homebound & bored recovering from hysterectomy
Hey all -
My mum's just recently had a hysterectomy to remove fibroids, and while she's recovering well, she's bored of walking in circles around the house unable to lift things to do washing etc. and can't take any more chat shows/soap operas and sleep :S
I've been trying to think of ways she can keep herself occupied (I am flatting and at work all day, so I can only pop in to see her every now and then). She has a ton of magazines and is sick of tv...
Any suggestions?

Movies, books, crossword or word search puzzles?? Unfortunatley if she's an active type - being laid up is just going to be hard onher. But as long as she's allowed ot get up and walk around that will help her to recover more quickly.
Maybe you can arrange for some of her friends to drop by and visit?? Or get her a project to complete - a photo album, cross-stitch etc.??
How bout learning a language? If she's reasonably adept with a computer, the software Rosetta Stone is FANTASTIC - a little spendy, but about the best way to learn a language without going to a class or taking a trip abroad!

Ooh - awesome. Thanks a lot for those suggestions. She's not very good with anything to do with technology so the computer things out....though I have just graduated and have a truckload of pics etc. so I might organise to get her do it instead of me.....that could keep her occupied....

Does she like to sew? I know that is one of the most relaxing things I love to do.

Thanks for the suggestion - I'll put it to her...I think she was interested in cross stitch at one points, maybe I can find her one of those kit things to do...

Let her walk!
They don't want her to climb stairs the first week because the strain on the insides. But the more walking the better. She should be fine to fold laundry if someone can bring it to her. Under no circumstanses should she be bending over in and out of the dryer/washer!!
**Always check in with the doctors office to verify what is ok to do.
Is she having trouble sleeping?

Thanks - yeah, we were told by the doctors to keep her walking a lot and keep her liquid intake up. No probs sleeping thank goodness - I think she's usually so tired out from the day she gets to sleep quite easily.
