Unhappy

Assalam Alaikum Sisters,

Am new here. My first post.

I was diagnosed with PCOS ages ago when I was 21 or so. I had the usual irregular periods and then heavy bleeding. I didn't really think about it too much. Was given medication (Dianet) which I took for years.

Then a year after I married, made Hajj and then decided it was time for a baby and nothing really happened

Its been two years now (I am 30), and I am the type who hasn't really bothered to read about PCOS, do my home-work etc. My doc put me on Metformin, but beyond that I haven't really done anything. I want a baby but at the same time realise that career-wise this is a mad period for me. I am doing a PhD on Muslim women.

I was feeling a little depressed today - just finishing with my period. Was googling around the internet and came across you sisters. You seem like a great bunch and it would be lovely to talk to you girls. I think you will understand what it feels like. And will be able to advise on what I should read. I think I must start taking PCOS more seriously.

But at the same time I keep telling my husband that I don't want to use any medication. I want to have a baby naturally, which when happen when Allah wills. Is this the right attitude?

Jazak Allahu Khair for being there sisters.

A sad and confused sis

Salaam Greens and welcome! You have reached a great group. Inshallah we will all make dua for you. In terms of the right attitude, i think it's a very personal decision. I think that if there's something wrong then there's nothing with using meds. I went on to usingmeds right away like femara and clomid but ended up conceiving naturally.

I have seen people here try for years and then get pregnant on their first or second medicated cycle. So it's def a personal decision but there is nothing wrong with using meds.

Inshallah whatever is best and you will be belssed soon. Ameen.

Salam sisters! Wow! I'm so sorry I've been away almost the whole summer. This has been a summer to remember. Hamdillah I got home safely but with a few extra people. I convinced my sister and her family (husband and three kids) to come to Florida with me so we can go to the theme parks. Yesterday we did Universal Studios and the Islands of Adventure and just had a BLAST! On the weekend we went to a Pirates dinner show for my nephew's birthday. They gave him a pirate hat, said his name on the microphone, and got him a birthday cake. He's four so everything was just so wonderful to him. Sarah also rode on her first roller coaster (its for little kids) and laughed so hard. I also took her on the Jaws ride and when the big shark came up on the side of the boat she again laughed. I swear this little girl is fearless. Her third birthday happened in Iowa, so we took her and her six cousins to chuck e cheese and she got professional pictures done for her birthday (i do this every year). While we were in Iowa we also went to the Omaha Zoo (its a very NICE zoo) and to the Mall of America. There's also a little Native American Pow wow that happens on a reservation about an hour away from my parents' house. We used to go as kids and now my sisters and I took our own kids to it. They really had a blast. Unfortunetly, my sister is going to be leaving on Thursday but it was a great 7 weeks we spent together. She'll be going home to Kuwait in another week (she wants to spend the first week of Ramadan with my parents). Sarah starts pre-school on the 25th. I'm excited and a bit nervous. Now to personals...which I've been lacking in that department all summer...please forgive me!

Nomadic- Salam sister! How are you? I didn't see much posting going on from your side either. I hope everything is ok and that you're off the IV feedings. Have you made a final decision on the baby's name? I remember you talking about Fatima...?

Wantababy- Salam! I'm glad to hear that everything is well with your baby. You are such a worrywart (lol...I'm teasing you! *hugs* ) I hope you're enjoying your pregnancy and not letting it all get to you.

Rusalka- Salam sister! how are you? How's your DH? Inshallah everything is good. How was the move? I know that was ages ago...sorry!

Zainab- I'm so sorry to hear about your Uncle and grandmother. I hope you and your family are doing ok now. I did read about that earlier and have kept you and your family in my duaa.

Crunfil- Salam sister. Have you started clomid yet? I remember you were waiting on a test before they gave it to you. Inshallah you'll get it and it'll work for you.

Nourania- Salam! I love that new picture of Jennah. Mashallah she's growing to be a beautiful young lady.

Bundleof joy- How your pregnancy going? Inshallah everything is going well. Did you find out if you're going to have a boy or girl?

IMG2005- Salam sister! How was your move? Did everything work out ok? I hate moving..hamdillah we had movers the last two times but its still a pain.

@ngel- Salam sister..how are you?

Froggielover- Salam sister.

Diamond- How are you doing?

Gracemind- Salam sister. I hope everything is well.

If I missed anyone I'm sorry.

Thanks Sis Wantababy. I think I shall start reading a bit about PCOS. I read so much otherwise so the least I can do is read about this. And yeah maybe I shall discuss things with my doctor and perhaps I should concentrate on loosing some weight!

Green: Salam, you are welcome here. Whatever approach you decide to use is up to you. Some people decide to wait if time is on their side and their PCOS is manageable, for someone like me that could not even have my periods on my own and when I do (which used to be 2 times a year) I bleed for weeks and it would not stop until I see a Dr and they put me on medication. I didn't have any other choice than to see a specialist and immediately go on medication to make it happen, and by Allah's will it worked, if he willed it not to happen it wouldn't have so I know even though I used medication both times, Allah made these happen. May Allah guide you in the right direction.

Sarahsmom: I glad you enjoyed your vacation and I glad Sarah is doing much better. I am fine, my pregnancy is going on well and we are having a girl. We have not decided on a name yet, DH is not cooperating with my choice (Mariam) and he does not have any appealing choice yet.

Salam to all other sisters.

AFM: I am on vacation, we went to NY to see my sister and now we are in Wisconsin to have fun at Wisconsin dells, we will be back home insha Allah on Friday to prepare for Rahmadan. Adam is having a lot of fun.

Salaam Sisters,

Pray you are well..

A1989&Waterlilly-welcome to this thread.

Greensme-welcome do this board. Insha Allah you will find lots of info and support on this thread. I was the same about taking medication after finding out i had pcos i wanted to take it natural and had chinese herbal treatment and accupuncture and didnt want to take medicine. The herbal treatment didnt work for me and then i decided to get a move on with the doctors. I am now on clomid.

Wantababy: Masha Allah i am glad everything went well with your scan. Im sorry you fell down the stairs, but Alhamdulillah there was a heart beat. I am sure everything will be fine.

Rusalka: how are you, and thank you for starting the newb thread.

Sarahs Mom: i was beginning to wonder where you were. I am glad you had a good time. When are you starting clomid?

Nomadic: hope your ok Insha Allah.

AFM: My lump on my foot Alhamdulillah is nothing dangerous the results came back last week. I do have to go for surgery to have it removed. Im not sure as yet as to when the surgery will be i hope its after ramadhan.

I am on day 29 of my cyle and took clomid this cycle. I had blood test day 21 and just rang up, My Gyn secretary said that i have ovulated. just wanted to ask how accurate are blood tests in telling you whether you have ovulated or not? I really dont like my gyn secretary i find her very difficult to talk to i guess i just have to be patient.

Green- Welcome to the board. Like everyone is saying, you'll not only get a good place to get information but a great place to vent. Only the sisters here know what we are going through and they are a great shoulder to cry on.

Bundle of joy- Mabrook on your baby girl. Inshallah you'll be blessed with her. Mariam is a beautiful name, why is your husband against it? Point out to him that you're the one who's going to be doing the pushing......

Crunfil- Yeah, the summer has been crazy. Actually we are going to Busch Gardens today (in about an hour or so), and then my sister leaves tomorrow. This is the last day of my summer. As for the Clomid, the doctor gave me the green light from May but I haven't started yet. I'm going to wait until after Ramadan or if I get my period towards the end of Ramadan. But honestly, after this summer, I'm not sure if I'm ready to have another baby yet. Sarah still needs a lot of work. I mean on one hand, having a baby will take away some time that I give Sarah. Which she really needs that time. On the other hand, what if she always needs my extra attention, do I not have anymore children? DH and I were ready in Jan, then we decided to wait until after Germany and now I'm not sure anymore.

Asalaamu Alaikum,

crunfil, that's very good news about your Day 21 results. That means that you did ovulate insha'Allah, to a 28 day-cycle. Insha'Allah this is your month!

sarah'smom - welcome back sis!

Welcome to the new sisters.

Sorry I can't do much more for personals.

Ramadan Kareem to everyone!

Greensme, welcome to the thread. We're here to support each other inshaAllah. You PhD field sounds really interesting. Good luck with it.
Don't worry much about having a baby. As long as your cycles are under control, or at least you get to ovulate and have timed intercourse, inshaAllah there is no reason for you not to get preggo and carry it to term. Since you're on metformin, your insulin and bloodsugar levels should be fine inshaAllah. How about ovulation, ever charted your BBT(your basal body temperatures) through your cycle? Are you on birth control pills? If yes, charting doesn't work for you. If not, it's a great way to start when taking charge of your fertility. I see that you're not a fan of ovulation medications. I'm like you and I prefer natural therapies better, like soy isoflavones to induce ovulation. There's a forum and dozens of threads about alternative treatments of PCOS on this board. Here's the link: http://www.soulcysters.net/alternative-remedies/

Happy Ramadan to everyone! Here in Tampa, they have already decided that Ramadan will start on Sat. Has anyone else heard about their area? What time is your iftar? Ours is going to be around 8:30pm. Inshallah it'll be easy for everyone.
