This won't work for everyone but here is my story. I have had cystic acne for many years, with pock marks. I have tried EVERYTHING except accutane because I heard Cysters are not as successful with acutane as it doesn't address the root. Occasionally antibiotics worked but only temporarily. I couldn't believe it when Yasmin plus spironolactone didn't work.
After an obscure suggestion form some internet researching, I tried cutting out iodine in my diet (very hard to eat processed foods and eat at restuarants), and added megadoses of "broccoli pills" because that cuts iodine as well. In 4 days my skin was clear!
I have a nodule on my thyroid that was producing hormone but yet my TSH levels were within the normal range. The doctors were not worried about it, as it is benign, and NEVER connected it to acne.
(Apparantly a lot of people have thyroid nodules and don't know it, mine was just fluid filled and enlarged.)
If you have not had success with the typical treatments, you may want to try this (especially if you tend to be hyperthyroid, or sometime hypothyroids can have mixed up symptoms. I don't know, all I know is that too much iodine makes me have acne.
Yeah they actually say that dairy has been linked to acne because of the iodine levels found in milk products, as well as if you consume a lot of sodium that has iodine.
There are probobly lists of iodine amounts in all foods on the internet, but the things I cut out are sea vegetables, fish, dairy, sea salt, and salt with added iodine. It is very hard to eat out because most prepared food uses salt with iodine. You just never know. When I am dilegent with makling my own food with mortons no iodine salt, I see a huge improvement in my skin.
This isn't for everyone because iodine is great for most people. If uyou thyroid is off then you might experiment. (even hypothyroids can have reverse symptoms. I don't quite understand that).
Broccoli pill help as they are cruciferous vegetables that are supposed to absorb the iodine. Cutting the salt in food is the best though.
Nope sorry, I am just trying to stay acne free for a while before I start woeking on the scars. There is a lot of advice out there but who knows what will work. Just read a lot first and experiment. Good Luck.
