I feel like an acne faced infertile ugly girl.....

I wear tons of makeup to try and cover it up..i thought acne was the worst of my problems untill i found out i have PCOS.. i also have hair on my upper lip, toes, feet, and recently started getting it on my nipples... I have to pluck it off my nipples and upper lip every few days it makes me really depressed NOONE knows i have any of these problems but my doctor...

Awww I just want to give you a hug because I feel exactly the same. Somedays I look in the mirror and just think I look hideous. I suffer from cystic acne and have so many scars from years of suffering. I wear alot of makeup to cover it up but the bumps from the cystic acne are still very obvious. I'm trying so hard to feel better about myself and accept my acne but it is so hard. I just wanted to let you know that you are not alone in this. My goal is to one day be able to look in the mirror and like what I see.

I know the feeling all too well - hate hair growth so much. Have just noticed hair growing along my upper cheek bones/under my eyes. Makes me so sad.
However as for spots, my doctor prescribed me Zineryt, which is basically erythromycin and zinc acetate. Spots seem to be decreasing somewhat. Just thought I'd recommend it.

Ugh-I know what you mean I just want to be able to not wear make up for once....I don't even like hanging around the house without it b/c I catch myself in the mirror-and it's like HUGE Red blotches.

What's helped me...well birth control and as soon as I finally have a baby-I'm totally getting back on it. I took Ortho Tri-cyclen.

But I went to an estetician (sp) and got lazer hair removal-it's only $50, and most of my hair on my face is gone now, I guess you have several growth cycles-so you have to go like every 4-6 weeks for the first few months and evenutally just 1 x year for maintenance....it helped my acne! I guess the hairs can cause acne.

Then, I also started BPL Light Therapy...at the skin place I go-its only $25. But its like a little lazer/light and it 'deactivates the bacteria' The first time I went, my skin was so inflamed and it immediately eliminated the inflammation and I felt so much better, I go twice a month...hoping to evenutally just have to go 1 x month.

But...if you aren't ttc...I'd recommend birth control, it made such a difference for me, I look at old pictures of me when I was on bc and just want to cry b/c I miss my old skin!

I think that every woman who suffers from acne and hair growth suffers with their image. Hugs to you and hope you start feeling better soon! Know that you are not alone!

I have had cystic acne since I was 19, it has gotten better over the years, but it is still there and flares up on occassion. I think the hair growth bothers me the most! I tweeze, shave and wax and it still grows back like a bad weed. Knowing that we are not alone in our fight with PCOS helps alot!

Just do what you can, keep trying and maybe one day we'll get some kinda relief.

Angry

I was just about to start a thread about this exact same thing. I'm sitting here thinking... If I get one more pimple... if I gain one more pound.... if I hear one more friend say "I'm pregnant!" I'm just going to snap! I'm so over, and it's just starting for me. As soon as I have a baby, I'm going back on Yasmin. Hopefully the met helps (I will be starting that as soon as my labs come back).

Hi all,
I know how you all feel, I would reccomend you see a naturopath to help fix your dreadful acne problems. I haven't quite been diagnosed with PCOS but i too have the facial hair and acne, i'm now 26. My naturopath is treating me from the inside with vitamins, and changed my diet so i eat more protein and less carbs this is really helping. I am also on a mediherb called polyfem (I'm from Australia) has anyone heard of this? It seems to be helping my skin and the hair growth. For those of you who have been dignosed with PCOS have you been treated before? and after treatment do all the symtoms continue to come back. Curious.

ahh yes add me to this acne/facial (and other) hair rant. so just straight up annoying, and I just am amazed that my husband can accept that I hate myself for this... but I don't dwell on the extra hair (shave chin and nipples in shower daily), just avoid most makeup but use this powder spot stuff for zits. I swear I'm getting more and more now on Metformin. But I'm just putting family and fun time in my life and who cares about zits and hair when you're doing something fun that can get your mind off it

I can't ever talk about whether or not I've faced depression in this life of PCOS - my mom was dx with cancer when I was 14 and THAT is what put me in depression (and when my cycles started, and basically stopped for eternity)... and well this constant fear of losing mother lasted until she left us 45 days before our weddings (my brother got married same weekend I did).... so yeah, not sure I can say depression stuff linked BUT I know I can easily get to spot where I just hate myself more because of the acne and hair stuff.

Love the tips some of you have given, thanks!

Hi Linton

You're right...solutions which start from the inside definitely help and dietary changes. For me, I've cut back on the dairy and the carbs (but not eliminated them) and increased my vege intake. It helps somewhat, but it's hard when I see friends who smoke and eat copious amounts of chocolate, potato crisps and ice-cream and have perfectly beautiful skin.

Funnily enough, my hair and nails have improved so much since being on MET and with the dietary changes. Just the skin on my face which is sucky :-(

Hi, i'm so glad you agree, it most certainly is a hormonal influence why we still in our 20's, 30's still have bad skin and acne. We can reduce the not so good hormones (testosterone) by avoiding foods which are high in carbohydrates, not eliminating them completely as you say but just cutting them out every once in a while; and by doing this it will increase the good hormones (androgens) which decrease facial hair growth and bad toxins that build up which then need to be extracted through the face which turn into acne. Have you been diagnosed with PCOS? if so, has the treatment worked permanently? I get mad when beauticians say things like, "it's got to do with your PH levels", or "it's the specific moisturisers you use". I thoroughly believe it's a combination of what we put into our bodies and hormonal imbalances. 'Linton'

Hi, have you ever been treated for your acne? if not i would reccomend you see a naturapth, they treat people on the inside rather than on the outside of the body with natural herbs which i swear by you-they work. If you already have, what have you used previously?
I wish you luck, i too suffer with acne but mine is under control at the moment. (fingers crossed) and i have been treated by a naturapth, im writing from Australia so not sure what you call them over there. Also try cutting down on carbs and increase your protein intake, eat a rainbow diet, like greens and red and blue fruits like strawberries, kiwi and blueberries. Try this for a few weeks and see how you go.
Good Luck. 'Linton'

Hi Linton, yeah I've been diagnosed with PCOS and since starting with MET and dietary changes, it's helped a lot with the acne. I have no more back acne at all, but my pimples are just tonnes of little ones on my face. Rarely do I get cystic acne anymore, which is a blessing. I'd like to go to a naturopath for the acne, but you know, after trying so many things in the past (you name it, I've probably tried it), it's just working up the energy to go and get a consultation and start from scratch again. I'm tired of going to dermatologists who just recommend either antibiotics combined with strong topical gels and it doesn't really fix the cause of the acne. Once I have the energy, I'll def go to a naturopath and see what they can do. Thanks for the advice too btw.
