My Mood: Points: 10,098.87 Bank: 232,548.06 Total Points: 242,646.93 | My Birth Story!! After a long, hard and emotional day, we finally met our little boy. Friday after a routine appointment, Dr Walker decided to dend me over to the hospital. They found what was a dyaphragmatic hernia (no idea how to spell that!) and also that the baby had a low amount of amniotic fluid. He thought that waiting until Monday's induction would be too risky. So around 4pm Friday I was admitted to the hospital. They inserted a Follie balloon up above my cervix to help make it favorable, since I wasn't dialated much and my cervix was still quite high. The plan was to start pitocin at 6am and get things rolling. So at 530am they checked and the little bugger flipped to breach at the last minute. After a month of being head down he flipped! So the plan was to go in for a C-Section at 10am. After an emotional episode about finally being done and having surgery we were about to head in for surgery. But they decided to check the baby once again. And again at the last minute, he flipped back to head down! So the surgery was off. So we started the pitcoin to begin labor. After about 3 hours, the contractions still hadn't gotten intense. The neonatologist came in to talk with us about what to expect. He said that he would contact Children's Hospital to make sure that if needed they had room for Lucas. Well, they didn't have the room there and the only place with the special ventilator that he might need was in Portland. At that point they stopped the Pitocin because they weren't sure if I would deilver here or if they would transport me to Portland. After the Dr's discussed what was best, they decided that transporting me was a bad idea. So after a few hours they started the pitocin again. So at 230pm, we started labor...again. Everyone thought that labor would fast and smooth. With Joshua labor from start to finish was 5 hours. So after 7 hours (the 2nd round of pitocin) I was only at a 5cm. Labor this time around was about 100 times worse than I ever remember with Joshua. I opted for the IV drugs, but they never took effect. I as ked for the eipidural, something that I did not want to do. Even that didn't work for me. It was only working on one side. After about 15 minutes, my blood pressure dropped and the baby's heart rate dropped and we decided that going for a C-section was the best option for baby and I. So we wheeled our way into the OR and I got the spinal tap that finally worked. Surgery started and Lucas was born at 9:47pm on 8/9/2008. Lucas was taken to the NICU and put on a ventilator. He got an IV and a central line through his umbilical cord. He was stable and doing well. We all went to sleep and actually slept for a little while. This morning, they have taken him off the venitlator and there is a possibility that he won't need to be transported to Children's Hospital in Seattle. They are doing a CT scan to check the hernia and they also were checking the fluid from his chest. But things are looking good for the little guy and we are ever optimistic! I haven't seen him or held him yet, but a little later today I should be able to go and hold my son. I am feeling pretty good, considering the last 36 hours and that I haven't eaten in 34! But I am excited to hold my son, and to see Joshua. To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
