Default My calves have been aching, should I be worried?!?

I've been on bcp's about 2 weeks now. During that time the front of my calves have been aching off and on. Kinda like shin-splints. Since it's the front of my calves that's aching, I figured I didn't need to worry about it being caused by blood clots. But the longer the aching goes on, the more I wonder if it's clots afterall. What do you ladies think? Thanks in advance for your help!!!

Be worried. It's better to worry than have something bad happen. I'm a case study on why bcp's are bad, I got a clot. Even though it feels like its at the front of your legs, you have a lot of veins and arteries in your legs, and clots can form in ANY of them. Call your doctor, discuss your concern, and get it checked out. Better to be safe than sorry.

A couple quick questions though, aside from the pain, any other symptoms? Does it feel warm, or swollen at all? Does it hurt all the time or just when you move or just when you touch it? Are your feet swollen at all? Those are all questions your doctor should ask as well...

Hello...

I agree with the previous poster. Look for swelling in the feet. It is unusual to have a clot in both legs at the same time, and it could be the front or the back, though i believe the back of the calf is more common. You would notice unusual warmth on the affected side. The foot may be swollen on the side affected and there should be some degree of redness on the affected side. you may feel feverish. The big test would be flexing your toes up towards your head. If you cannot flex completely in that direction due to severe pain, this would be a sign of a clot. Any unusual coughing or difficulty breathing would be an emergency. I agree its better to be safe than sorry, but those are the things to look for.

Take care
Brenda

Well, I officially feel like a dork!! I went to the dr to see about the pain in my calf. Come to find out that it was just shin-splints! Don't get me wrong, I'm relieved that there's no clot but I'm feeling pretty foolish right now. I guess better safe than sorry.

Anyway, thank you all for responding to my post. I appreciate your help. Best wishes!

Definately better safe than sorry especially when something like that. I've done that before, gone to my doctor and left feeling like a fool because it turns out to be nothing but that's what doctors are there for!!
