Default My DHEA-S level is only 277...why would RE want to give me dexamethasone?

Supposedly the normal levels of DHEA Sulfate are between 65 - 380 for women; mine is 277. My RE prescribed me dexamethasone today to lower my DHEA and when I Googled it I found out it's a steroid (which I'm not thrilled about due to the lovely possible s/e's such as weight gain and "moon face" ) and there seems to be arguments both for and against using it in PCOS patients. Should DHEA be lower in women TTC? Any other ideas?

I'm kinda late in seeing this, sorry. I take Dexamethasone, and it has helped me a lot. I don't have any s/e's with it. I only take it from CD3 until Ov as well. My DHEA-S isn't above the limit either, but it's high. So is my Testosterone.

It's a glucocortoid, and lowers the levels of DHEA-S and Testosterone, it can also help with insulin sensitizing. So even if the number isn't above the line, being high can still interfer with things.

I did not respond to Clomid at all for the most part. Then one cycle I took Clomid and Prednisone on the same days... I had fallen down my porch steps and got whiplash, which is why I was on Prednisone, not for fertility reasons. But Prednisone is a glucocortoid, just like Dex. Low and behold, I responded stellar to the Clomid that cycle, and got pregnant (m/c later, unrelated to treatment)

So awhile after that, I started researching it, and asking my doc to test my levels. For me, it was worth it. I honestly think that just trying one cycle will not hurt, and several research articles I have read say the same... that one cycle for Clomid resistant PCOS patients with high DHEA-S, and if it doesn't help discontinue it... I posted some links on this thread if you want to check them out:

Extended Use of Clomid

Thanks for responding, actually it was perfect timing! I started Clomid again on Monday and didn't get to see my regular dr at the RE because she wasn't in. I had completely forgotten about taking Decadron last cycle and remembered yesterday, and they hadn't prescribed it again so I wasn't sure if it was just a one-time thing or if I should be taking it each cycle. I called them in the morning but they didn't call me back until closing and my dr had already left. The nurse said that was a really good question and is supposed to be calling me back this morning with an answer. I have some predisone from an inflammed tooth nerve that I never took, so maybe to be on the safe side I will take it?!

Jen: I would think it would be safe, but I don't think waiting a day to hear back from them would hurt too much. Hope they call you back and get things sorted out

Thanks Stephanie! My dr actually called me back a few hours ago; they said indeed I was supposed to be on it.
